The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter. Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.


Sector Area Manager III / Sector Area Manager Senior – Mission Enabling Solutions (Low-Rate Build)


What You’ll Do:


  • Lead a team of PMs and key core engineering and manufacturing staff to low-rate production antenna hardware at high quality on cost and schedule.
  • Responsible for projecting and realizing quarterly and annual bookings, sales, and profit targets.
  • Establish sector strategy aligned with the Mission area strategy to support technical development and business growth.
  • Provide sound leadership and team building to motivate, influence and effectively apply the sector team members.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal/external communication systems.
  • Resolve conflicts, demands and priorities.
  • Partner with Design for Manufacturing resources to ensure Design for Manufacturing principles are applied to the maximum extent possible on low-rate production contracts.
  • Provide feedback on technical and manufacturability recommendations and lessons learned to other Mission Area Sectors. Consult on early development programs as needed.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with major customers both government and industry.
  • Interact with contracted customers, especially during contract negotiations, major reviews, and problem resolution.
  • Interface and collaborate with other Sectors, Mission Areas, and Ball Aerospace Strategic Business Units (SBUs) to align technology development roadmaps and program execution.
  • Interface and collaborate with Ball Aerospace Strategic Capabilities Units (SCUs) to ensure program needs are thoroughly understood and future required resources and capabilities are available with the appropriate capacity on the designed timeline.
  • Review and approve technical and contracting approaches for portfolio programs.
  • Ensure appropriate security constructs are in place for program execution activities.
  • Ensure programs have an established execution baseline. Review detailed Risk and Opportunity management plans that tie back to the baseline. Conduct internal program reviews and provide guidance for recovery or mitigation efforts.
  • Provide inputs to TS OH, IRAD and B&P budget requests and manage to budget allocations. Provide inputs to the capital planning process.
  • Provide inputs staffing and facility requirements.
  • Provide leadership to all Ball Aerospace employees working in or supporting the sector programs / projects.
  • Work closely with business partners in Engineering, Integrated Supply Chain, Finance, Security, IT, and Human Resources to formulate and explain needs and follow through with these organizations to make sure the Sector has what it needs to be successful.
  • Provide leadership, knowledge, business opportunities, strategies, competitive intelligence, market, and legislative forecasts commensurate with Ball Aerospace financial and strategic plans relative to the purpose noted above to other areas within Ball Aerospace outside of the Mission area and TS.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need:


  • Sector Area Manger III – BS/BA in related field plus 12 years or more related experience.
  • Sector Area Manger III – BS/BA in related field plus 15 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Degree in engineering or physics preferred.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with demanding customers, difficult schedules, and technically challenging projects.
  • Demonstrated team leadership.
  • Ability to self-start and understand the big picture as well as technical, budget and schedule issues at the detail level.
  • Familiar with general government contractual requirements.
  • Experienced with an ISO 9001 environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation development and delivery skills.
  • Ability to lead proposal development.
  • Ability to lead and effectively negotiate program awards.
  • Ability to lead Programs and Projects achieving customer cost, technical and schedule requirements.
  • Experience utilizing standard program status tools strongly preferred.
  • Earned Value (EV) and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) including variance reporting
  • Program performance reporting status including program highlights, Cost Performance Index (CPI), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), schedule progress, technical status and Customer Relations.
  • Technical Performance Metrics (TPM’s) including current progress of key technical performance parameters against requirements.
  • Proactive risk and opportunity management against program management baseline.
  • Contract Change management to control, monitor and resolve internal and external changes related to Program plan.
  • Experience in program and procurement management responsibilities for tactical hardware preferred.
  • Experience executing internal research and development projects preferred.
  • Experience with subcontract management and supplier oversight preferred.
  • Experience in design, fabrication, test, and transition to production of antenna products preferred.
  • Comfortability and competency with MS Office computer tools including: WORD, EXCEL, PROJECT, POWERPOINT and OFFICE.


On-Site Work Environment:
This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:


  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR SECTOR AREA MANAGER III:
    $157,500 - $216,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR SECTOR AREA MANAGER SENIOR: $175,500 - $243,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
