JOB SUMMARY
Goodwill of Colorado’s Assistant Transportation Manager assists in overseeing many aspects of our Goodwheels Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Program, a leading community transportation social enterprise.
You will assist in leading a team of 20+ drivers and dispatchers who are dedicated to providing unparalleled door-through-door service in El Paso County for our audience comprised primarily of Medicaid clients, with a smaller percentage of services provided to private-pay clients. We pride ourselves on taking that extra step for our clients, ensuring they arrive safely inside their destination. Our fleet of more than 20 vehicles is driven by our compassionate and customer-focused team, who specialize in transporting clients using bariatric wheelchairs and provide an inclusive, caring experience. This position is a full-time 40 hour a week position with the possibility of evening and weekend work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Community-Based Transportation Program Dispatch Operations and Management
The incumbent will develop and monitor field efficiencies and innovate new ways to improve operations. This position will also be responsible for handling complaints, discussing challenges, and working with management to develop action plans to improve driver performance, profitability, and customer service. The successful applicant must have a positive outlook and have the ability to multi-task. Will need to be flexible to cover operations as needed. Customer service and Safety are our top priorities within GoodWheels. Ensuring employee satisfaction and reinforcing that our staff is the company’s most valuable asset is critical and a primary responsibility of this position.
Monitor and manage Key Performance Indicators and cost factors impacting operational effectiveness.
Manage all routing modifications to ensure the business is utilizing equipment and staff efficiently.
Continually assess the service level agreements and provide recommendations to managers regarding opportunities to improve operational performance.
Excellent communication skills required both written and verbal. Must be able to effectively communicate well under pressure.
Find and create efficiencies regarding conserving fuel, reducing idle time, etc. by utilizing available technology.
Organize and schedule all necessary resources required to accomplish activities.
Staff Development
The individual must have the ability to motivate the members of the transportation team while supporting their development through appropriate and effective supervision and guidance. In addition, the incumbent will provide work direction and guidance to staff and be committed to providing timely feedback regarding the quality of task completion. The incumbent will be responsible for completing performance reviews for each direct report per the performance review guidelines of the company while coaching, mentoring and challenging employees to improve performance and increase level of performance within identified competencies.
The incumbent will assist/lead all training by training of subordinates to include training in the skills of the job, emphasizing the necessity for teamwork and supportive relationships. The individual will assist in partnering with other departments to ensure appropriate documentation for all clients transported and to ensure the transportation department requirements meet all industry regulations and standards. In addition, the Supervisor will represent the Transportation Manager to other staff as needed.

Establish and maintain a positive relationship with all staff. Assist in creating an experience that is number one in the industry.
Embrace, promote and lead continuous improvement efforts, including selection and implementation of dispatch component of enterprise software.
Relationship Management
The incumbent is responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive and professional relationship with all customers, vendors, referral agencies, consumers, families and Goodwill of Colorado staff. The individual will also advise the Transportation Manager through formal and informal means, on the overall production operation and in particular, the workflow, and information related to customer demands, quality control problems, material shortages and personnel needs. The individual must also partner with internal customers by communicating changes in direction and accommodate requests for assistance to achieve department goals.
Effectively communicate with customers on a regular basis regarding core transportation issues impacting the customer and the effectiveness and efficiency of the fleet.
Set and monitor productivity, service, and safety targets for each route and driver and dispatcher.
Monitor and approve productivity and staff timecards.
Leadership and Support
It is expected that the Assistant Manager will seek opportunities to advocate the vision, mission, strategic plan, and philosophies of the company. This individual will develop and carry out strategic objectives by creating a plan of action for implementation by determining that all resources, time commitments, and strategies are in place to meet unit objectives and contribute to overall success of the department. The individual will promote and set the standard for conduct and appearance in keeping with a professional working environment and will guide others to ensure this is achieved. As a team leader, the Assistant Manager will promote and set the standard of a team concept within the workplace. This includes responsibility for employee performance reviews and feedback, providing motivation and encouragement, scheduling time off, employee grievances or complaints, pay changes and dispatcher/driver accountability responsibilities. Demonstrating experience leading, directing, communicating change and developing a team strongly desired.
QUALIFICATIONS

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Individual must be willing to be certified in CPR and First Aid and to maintain the certification.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience providing staff supervision
- Experience in client transportation preferred
- Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license, without a history of major violations.
Per contract requirements with vehicle insurance provider: Qualified candidates must be 21 years of age and have no major traffic violations for previous 3 years (for driving/insurance purposes). Must have reliable transportation; must also be able to operate company vehicle.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
- Experience in supervising within a transportation company working with persons with disabilities in a community-based setting preferred.
- Experience with financials and financial acumen preferred.
- Solid written and oral skills with a strong ability to work with others.
- Aptitude to gain further competency in statistical and/or transportation analysis tools.
The individual must demonstrate leadership, management, and administrative skills. Must have a high degree of maturity, conduct self with diplomacy, must demonstrate good judgment, responsibility, and initiative. The individual should possess effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to manage people, work cooperatively, to organize work, and make good decisions. The Assistant Transportation Manager must be able to manage people and deal with conflict effectively and constructively. The individual must conduct themself in a professional manner, maintain a professional appearance that enhances the firm’s reputation, and be a positive role model.
