POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Park Ranger Supervisor provides a safe and controlled atmosphere for visitors within the Berks County Parks, enforces the park ordinance and regulations, addresses safety and security issues, provides public information and assistance, public safety, resource protection, interpretive programming and assists in all facets of department events.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions
1. Provides visitor services which includes education and information regarding recreational opportunities and safety
2. Educates the public about the park ordinance and associated regulations and issue warnings as necessary
3. Observes, collects, and reports information that affects parks department facilities and users
4. Act as ranger-in-charge for daily tasks or park events in the absence of the chief ranger
5. Assist with administrative tasks such as schedule prep, vehicle service, and equipment inventory as delegated by the chief ranger
6. Respond to off hours alarm calls as delegated by the chief ranger
7. Assist with obtaining budgetary information and pricing quotes as delegated by the chief ranger
8. Assist with the on-boarding process and training of part time park ranger staff.
9. Performs individual patrols by vehicle, utility vehicle, bicycle and foot in a variety of weather conditions
10. Performs daily vehicle/equipment checks and completes daily patrol logs, and incident reports
11. Provides emergency aid as trained for all visitors and contact ems as needed
12. Responsible for crowd and traffic control and assists with special events within the parks department
13. Assists all local, county, state and federal agencies as needed
14. Required to take training as assigned
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent required
· Ten (10) years of experience in emergency services, parks and recreation, education, resource management or visitor services preferred
· Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
· A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required
· Must possess or be able to obtain CPR/first aid/AED certification
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Must project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public
· Must possess good problem-solving abilities and good judgement
· Knowledge of pa criminal code, vehicle code, civil law, labor relations, pa fish and boat and pa game laws preferred
· Ability to recognize liabilities for the county and immediately act upon them
· Adaptability to changing departmental needs and priorities
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
· Ability to work independently or as part of a team
· Ability to deal with potentially resistant people and persons of various mental and physical abilities
· Basic computer skills with Microsoft word, excel, outlook and PowerPoint
· Physical presence in the park is required.
· Ability to handle stress.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Have the ability to climb, stoop, bend, reach, walk, sit, stand, hike or bicycle for extended periods of time
· Ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds
· Ability to aid or lift people in need
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
· Potential for working in hazardous situations when dealing with ordinance violations
· Occasional exposure to chemicals, hazardous vegetation (poison ivy, etc.) And other hazards (animals, bees, etc.) When performing their responsibilities
· Exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat, cold, snow, rain and ice
· May be required to respond to calls in low or no light conditions
· Be available for emergencies outside of normal working hours
· Will work weekends, evening, holidays as needed
· Must wear provided uniform

Pay: $37,387.00 - $62,313.00 per year
