POSITION: Assistant Principal (Elementary School)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree required
- School Building Leader certification required
- At least five years of teaching in urban schools
- Administrative experience in urban schools preferred
- Experience working with teachers on curriculum implementation and student behavior
- Strong organization and communication skills (both written and verbal)
ABOUT THE POSITION:
AoC is seeking a Elementary School Assistant Principal who will assist the building principal in fostering a positive, safe and welcoming environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. The Elementary School Assistant Principal will support the Principal in establishing and implementing an instructional vision and a focused plan for improving student achievement while narrowing the disparities between the highest and lowest performing students; support professional educators in strengthening their instructional practices; create a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; and foster a culture of high expectations, providing every student with equitable access to high quality and culturally relevant instruction. This candidate will model integrity to students while also being an empathetic individual and a team player.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Principal will be responsible for overseeing students’ academic and behavioral needs as well as strengthening and maintaining the school and student culture. The Assistant Principal will work with the school community including teachers, students, parents and guardians. In addition, s/he will serve as the interface between the school and the students' homes, ensuring consistent and timely communication from the school. S/he will also be responsible for monitoring student assessments and achievement.
- Work with the Principal and to support all teacher's planning and implementation of curriculum. This includes specialists and support providers
- Work with the Principal to develop a Master Schedule
- Work closely with the Leadership team including the Principal, Dean of School Culture and Director of Operations
- Coordinate with the Dean of School Culture, Guidance Counselors, Social Workers and staff to strengthen and maintain the Academy of the City Charter School's culture
- Work with teachers, especially new teachers to facilitate their understanding of the mission and vision of the School and acclimating to the school culture
- Observe (formally and informally) all teachers, including specialists and support providers and provide feedback using the Danielson Framework and assist instructional staff in developing effective instructional practices
- Meet and discuss academic and behavioral expectations with parents, when necessary

- Willing to work in an ever-changing environment and face challenges head-on with a positive and professional attitude
- Believe in restorative justice practices
SALARY: $110K $130K (Commensurate with experience and credentials)
