Assistant teachers are an active participant in the teaching team in each classroom, providing direct instruction and support to special needs students. Duties include providing instruction under the supervision of the lead teacher, assisting with classroom management, implementing lessons and working directly with students developing social skills, as well as assisting with social emotional learning. Position is part of a dynamic team working towards creating exceptional educational outcomes for students with special needs. Small class sizes allow the teaching teams to make a meaningful difference in educating special needs students. The opportunity to earn a master’s degree and teaching certification in special education is available. The Harbour School provides special education services to students in grades 1-12. The qualified candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field and preferably experience working with children.
