Ellis Early Learning (formerly known as Ellis Memorial) is a vibrant, Boston-based nonprofit with a rich history founded in 1885. Ellis provides high-quality early education and care for infants, toddlers, and preschool children, and out-of-school time programs for youth in grades K through 8. Ellis is among the most socio-economically, racially, and culturally diverse organizations serving children in Boston. Through a partnership with Boston Public Schools, it operates two high-performing community-based K-1 classrooms. Ellis operates out of two historic buildings in the South End and will be expanding to a new site in JP in September 2021. Ellis currently serves over 200 children annually. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Substitute has the responsibility of working closely with teachers and assisting them with various tasks relating to supervision and engagement of children, including classroom activities, bathroom monitoring and activity clean-up.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Teacher(s) in providing appropriate early childhood educational experiences for children in art, music, literature, etc.
- Assist in arrangement and upkeep of classroom and all equipment and materials
- Assist in supervising all activities to ensure the safety of children at all times
- Assist in breakfast, lunch, snack, and nap time activities
- Assist in regular cleaning tasks (toys, surface areas, etc.)
- Meet with supervisor on a monthly basis, or as determined by supervisor
- Participate/attend in staff meetings as requested
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have at least a High School Diploma or GED (Early Childhood Certification ideal)
- Must have at least one month's experience working with children, preferably in a daycare setting
- Babysitting/nanny/mother's helper experience welcome
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated ability to practice effective time management; strong organization skills required
- Love of children, warmth, and a positive attitude
- Reliable, punctual, professional
