This role is ideal for individuals just starting in right-of-way and energy real estate or those transitioning from other careers with transferrable skills. This role is well-suited for individuals with a naturally curious disposition, someone that likes to build relationships and interacting with the public. The ideal candidate will be at the forefront of exciting energy and infrastructure projects across the Unites States and beyond, including across industries such as Renewable Energy, Electric Transmission & Distribution, Energy Storage, Pipeline, and many more.

Sample transferrable industries are likely customer service roles, real estate, appraisal or survey services, engineering, and construction services.

A day in the life of a Right-of-Way Agent:

  • Assist Senior Right of Way Agents & Land Management staff.
  • Learn about Title, how property ownership is chained together over time. Learn how to read the Title Reports, how to explain them to property owners, and help owners clear Title Clouds as they occur.
  • Secure permission to enter properties from landowners and tenants for the purpose of archeological, biological, cultural, and civil surveys to support the construction of infrastructure projects.
  • Learn the nuances of Easements, and how to negotiate with individuals to secure them for our clients. This requires building local relationships and being knowledgeable about right-of-way practices.
  • Maintain a detailed diary containing the facts of your interactions with property owners.

Requirements:

Education:
Associates Degree preferred or relevant experience

For this position a minimum of 1.5 years of experience is preferred but not required in work related to right of way or real estate services provided to public organizations. Broad knowledge of procedures used to acquire real property interests for public utility/infrastructure projects including condemnation. Knowledgeable with laws and regulations involving real estate transactions and Eminent Domain are also beneficial to the role.

Skills, Technical

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including spreadsheet and word processing.
  • The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possessing strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Should be motivated and able to work independently, making decisions and using best judgement while performing tasks.
  • Familiarity or exposure to common mapping or Geographical Information Systems is not required but a plus.
  • Proficiency with computer skills is necessary along with the ability to learn new applications.

Skills, Communication

  • Must have exceptional conversational and people skills and enjoy interacting with landowners through the negotiation of an agreement.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate clearly and concisely to prepare reports, specifications, applications, and correspondence.

  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Employee is expected to use good judgment when lifting or moving office supplies and/or furniture and to seek assistance or wear back support appliances when appropriate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus in use of computer monitor and other manual, task-related functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel objects, tools, controls. Reach with hands and arms, hear and talk. The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.

  • Ability to travel as dictated by job requirements.
  • This job will require most of the work to be performed in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled office setting.
  • Most activities require work to be performed at field locations, governmental agencies, corporate entities, and client offices. There are frequent interruptions during the workday for impromptu meetings.
