Palmetto Rock Services, Inc. was formed in 1992 as a specialty subcontractor based in Spartanburg, South Carolina to provide full service rock drilling and blasting services to the construction and mining industries in the Carolinas and Georgia.

Palmetto Rock is currently searching for a Blasting Superintendent

Responsibilities:

• Oversee crews performing site work. Conduct daily job briefs. Instruct crew on daily assignments.
• Read and understand project plans and specifications, lay out blast patterns for Drillers.
• Communicate construction needs: material, equipment, and staffing, in a timely manner to Construction D&B Manger/Project Manager to prevent delays. Communicate planning and scheduling with client.
• Inspect work areas throughout construction process to ensure the quality and accuracy of work meets specifications and that crew meets productivity goals
• Monitor and ensure that crew follows safety policies and procedures
• Communicate need for additional Pre-Blast Surveys & Seismic monitoring for current projects with Project Manager and Construction D&B Manager.
• Order explosives for each blast.
• Load blast and detonate in a safe manner.
• Report yardage blasted to Project Manager and Construction D&B Manager daily.
• Operate drills in critical situations (driller absence, hole cleanout, etc.)
• Complete required reports (production, personnel time and attendance, safety, inspection) on a daily/weekly basis
• Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods and equipment performance to improve efficiency
• Initiate and participate in personnel actions including hiring, discipline, evaluation and promotion of employees, and terminations
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
• Support safety program policies, procedures, implementation, and compliance verification

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• 2 to 5 years of related experience and training
• Blasting license in both SC and GA, or the ability to obtain
• Willingness and ability to travel and work, for extended periods at job sites located predominately in the Southeastern United States
• Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate plans and work schedules at all levels
• Ability to read, understand, and analyze plans and specifications
• Sense of urgency and ability to respond to changing situations
• Ability to prioritize tasks and complete work on schedule
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team
• Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
• Able to formulate sound decisions using available information
• Valid driver s license and ability to drive

Work Environment:

Work is performed outside in all types of environmental conditions. This position performs strenuous physical activity, for long periods, under varying and adverse field conditions. This position must be able to lift, carry, stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out and above shoulder, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.
