JOB SUMMARY

The Breastfeeding Support Specialist meets every prenatal and postpartum mom, teaches them about the benefits of breastfeeding, and encourages them to breastfeed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Teaches women about breastfeeding;
• Encourages women to breastfeed;
• Teaches classes and organizes support groups;
• Organizes community awareness programs for breastfeeding;
• Resolves any issues the moms and babies may have;
• Maintains activity and contact logs;
• Maintains breast pump inventory;
• Cleans the breastfeeding room;
• Makes recommendations that impact the budget;
• Provides encouragement to other worker and moms;
• Issues breast pumps; and
• Performs other assigned duties.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

• High School Diploma;
• One year of experience;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
• Valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems;
• Skilled in using computers for data entry;
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs;
• Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively;
• Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member; and
• Skilled in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires lifting and carrying (up to 10 pounds); crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
