Job Summary:

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for administration, direction, and coordination of all activities to meet hospital objectives. The CEO exercises management responsibility to ensure efficient services that are designed to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and staff. Leadership responsibilities include oversight of all operations, capital purchases, strategic planning, business development, and facilitating a positive image of the hospital within the business community. The CEO is accountable for attaining all facility goals and objectives as set forth by the governing board and corporate management, as well as ensuring compliance with system-wide policies and procedures and federal, state, and accrediting body guidelines and standards. This position assures that operations of the Hospital are met with a high standard of health care in accordance with the policies adopted by the Hospital given the resources available. The CEO is also responsible for maintaining a strong relationship with the physician partnership. The CEO provides support to the Board of Directors and Surgery Partners ( the management company), and is the primary liaison between the Board, Surgery Partners, and the staff of OakLeaf Surgical Hospital. The CEO is held accountable for the overall success of OakLeaf Surgical Hospital.

Essential Job Functions:

Strategic Functions:
  • Assess strategic opportunities to enhance the facility’s market position.
  • In collaboration with Corporate Partner, engage in the development, revisions, and implementation of both short-term and long-term strategic plans to support the hospital’s mission.
  • Lead the development of physician/facility strategies and executes plans to optimize the long-term potential of the facility.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, Executive Leadership, and our Corporate Partner to continually improve clinic operations including patient flow and safety, efficiencies in staffing, resource needs, information systems and optimization of revenue and expenses.
  • Critically and logically evaluate strategic and operational alternatives.
  • Champion new ideas and initiatives that create operational/strategic advantage.
  • Develops and communicate strategies that achieve competitive advantage, in areas such as productivity, quality, culture, talent, and revenue growth initiatives.
  • Demonstrates networking and interacting with community stakeholders.

Operational Functions:
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Oversee and effectively lead the Executive Team members.
  • Serve as a liaison and channel of communication between employees, Governing Board, physicians, and Corporate Partner.
  • Build solid, effective relationships with appropriate payors, businesses, and customers.
  • Ensure positive employee relations and trust through communication, education, consistency, and dependability.
  • Foster a work climate that attracts quality employees and provides and promotes the facility as a healthcare provider of choice for patients.
  • Ensure that the Hospital complies with the requirements of any governmental or regulatory body having jurisdiction in the premises or use of the Hospital, to meet such quality standards as set forth by the selected accrediting agency
  • Act as liaison between Board of Directors, Hospital Staff and Medical Staff
  • Implement established policies, rules, and regulations affecting both the hospital and personnel.
  • Provide high level direction on all functions of the hospital including surgical services, inpatient, radiology, ancillary and administrative support functions.
  • Represent the hospital in its relationships with other healthcare organizations, government agencies, third party payors and legal counsel.
  • Responsible for the continual and ongoing evaluation and management of the financial status of the hospital. Provide regular reports and assessments to the Government Board and our Corporate Partner to make appropriate changes in order to secure the financial solvency and success of the organization.
  • In collaboration with the CFO understands financial indicators/levers.
Physician Partnership Functions:
  • Ensure a positive working relationship with physicians; creates a culture of open progressive communication and mutual understanding between the physicians, facility leadership and employees.
  • Work with the Chief Nursing Officer in physician orientation, leadership, and practice in carrying out the hospitals mission statement.
  • Assist the Medical Executive Committee to ensure that medical practices and procedures meet the standards of any governmental or regulatory body having jurisdiction in the premises of use of the Hospital.
  • Present policy and procedure pertaining to the operation of the Hospital to the Medical Executive Committee and Board of Directors for approval.
  • Balance cost and quality issues and partner with Board of Directors to address productivity and quality improvements.
  • Serve as an effective liaison between the staff and the Board of Directors.

Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of and monitor complex budget.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive healthcare facility management experience.
  • Clinical background strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement and that of others
  • Working knowledge of hospital practices and operations required.
  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal regulatory and various accreditation requirements related to Hospital operations.
  • Working knowledge of operations and financial management and marketing methods.
  • Experience developing and motivating staff, as well as an understanding of the general principles of human resources management and employment law.
