The Opportunity
As the translation reviewer, you will be responsible for ensuring that both Simplified and Traditional Chinese translations of resources use terms that are appropriate and understandable for the intended audience of early childhood educators in California. You will also review designed multi-media modules and print resources in Chinese for quality assurance. The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills in Chinese and extensive knowledge of Chinese vocabulary related to early childhood education in California.
Responsibilities:
- Review Simplified and Traditional Chinese translations of training materials and resources for early childhood educators to ensure terms in Chinese are appropriate and understandable for the intended audience.
- Ensure that preferred translations and glossaries are used consistently across materials and resources.
- Contribute to the creation of a translation glossary for use in similar future translations.
- Review designed multi-media modules and print resources in Chinese for quality assurance.
- Provide recommendations to and collaborate with project staff to discuss and resolve translation of specialized terms.
- Develop online surveys in Chinese customized for different topics and audience groups.
- Conduct interviews in Chinese and take summary notes to be incorporated into the overall work.
- Assist with other project duties in Chinese, such as translating interview protocols or taking notes for focus groups.
What We're Looking For
- Ten or more years of experience in the professional use of Simplified and Traditional Chinese and English.
- Extensive knowledge of Chinese vocabulary related to early childhood education in California.
- Demonstrated expertise in writing, editing, and proofreading Chinese.
- Demonstrated expertise in translating English to Chinese and Chinese to English.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to problem-solve, think creatively, and apply new technologies.
- Ability to quickly learn to use basic features of computer applications such as Box, Smartsheet, and Zoom.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment dealing successfully with short- and long-term priorities simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to tailor appropriate, effective, and respectful use of Chinese from situation to situation.
- Respect for diverse perspectives; working positively and effectively as a member of a team.
- General familiarity with federal grant programs, education law and regulations, and 508 compliance/accessibility is a plus, but not required.
