The Clinical Chaplain I position is located at Tabor Correctional Institution, Tabor City, North Carolina. This position:Is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising a comprehensive interfaith religious program and services.
Develops and provides an inclusive and pluralistic pastoral care program for the facility.
Supervises religious volunteers and provides pastoral care to offenders, officers, and staff.
Must be an effective communicator; written and verbally.
Must communicate and correspond effectively with a wide range of inter-disciplinary staff, colleagues, community clergy, mental health service providers, volunteers, offenders, and their families.
Will conduct and coordinate religious services, education, training, and activities.
Will supervise offenders attending programs; provide guidance and counsel to the warden and associate wardens on religious and theological matters, as well as issues of morale effecting staff, officers and offenders when appropriate.
Will perform research investigations and data collection on a wide range of issues; pastoral, programmatic and Inter-faith.
Will comprehend and abide by all written policies and procedures governing Division and Facility activity.
Must be flexible to work nights, weekends or holidays as scheduled.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document in the Description of Work section of their application that they possess ALL of the following were applicable:

  • Demonstrate practical pastoral knowledge and skill and possess the ability to minister in a pluralistic setting (Islamic, Wiccan, etc.).
  • Documented ability to perform, coordinate and supervise diverse religious programs and services.
  • Proven skills in a pluralistic setting, constitutional principles, the recognized faith practices, and their implications for institutional persons "RLUIPA."
  • Working experience with the principles and methods of clinical pastoral care and the role of the chaplain in an institutional setting.
  • Documented ability to plan, organize, and develop a clinical chaplaincy training program and comprehensive pastoral care program.
  • Proven ability to deal harmoniously with residents and their relatives, staff, and student interns.
  • Proven ability to express oneself clearly in oral and written form.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Master of Divinity degree from a school of theology or seminary accredited by The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and one year of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) AND Ordination or membership in a recognized religious governed body;
-OR-
Master s degree in related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) AND Ordination or membership in a recognized religious governed body.
