GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Under the supervision of Mark Albers, M.D., Ph.D. the incumbent will be responsible for the administration of the assays of human olfactory function. With these techniques, testing of research subjects and patients across a spectrum of neurological diseases will be performed. Data collecting and data analysis will be required. Preparing summary tables and graphs for reports and publications will be expected.

The overall goal of our research is to better understand the role of olfactory function as a biomarker for neurodegeneration, COVID, traumatic brain injury, and other health related outcomes. We employ novel olfactory paradigms using new customized software and novel odor delivery devices. Experience with central IRB protocols is strongly preferred.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Testing of research subjects with cutting edge olfactory assays.

Maintaining supplies of odor cards at testing sites.

Taking calls from subjects to answer questions and triage new issues.

Upkeep of written records, of experimental procedures and data analysis;

Assistance with the management of IRB protocols

Assistance with preparation of grants and progress reports.


SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

An understanding of basic biology and psychology.

Excellent time management, eagerness to learn, and highly organized.

Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel, RedCAP are required. Ability to perform statistical analyses with SAS, SSPS, and / or R is preferred.

EDUCATION:

Bachelors required; Masters or MD (or equivalent) degree preferred; A concentration in psychology or biology preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Previous clinical research experience is preferred but not required

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

Assist with processing payment to research subjects

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Desk in Bldg. 114 in Charlestown Navy Yard; olfactory testing in Bldg. 149, Wang Bldg. on main campus, Lunder Bldg. and, possibly Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Charlestown.
