Job description

Magnolia Medical Technologies is an early-stage institutional investor-backed commercial medical device company that develops, manufactures and markets innovative blood and bodily fluid collection devices that significantly improve the accuracy, consistency and predictability of critical laboratory tests. False positive and false negative test results in the acute care setting commonly create confusion and uncertainty that routinely lead to inappropriate, unnecessary treatments.

Misdiagnoses due to inaccurate test results often significantly increase utilization of powerful antibiotics which are associated with complications and extended patient length of stay as well as risk for hospital-acquired-infections andconditions (HAIs and HACs). Through innovative device design, Magnolia’s products mechanically eliminate human errors that cause preventable inaccurate test results, significantly improving patient safety, care and experience as well as driving Antimicrobial Stewardship, CMS quality outcome metrics, and reducing overall hospital costs.

The company’s flagship product, Steripath® Blood Culture Collection and Contamination Prevention System, is the only technology clinically proven to virtually eliminate the preventable error of blood culture contamination and false positive results for the diagnosis of Sepsis – delivering sustained contamination rates as low as 0.2% with an average reduction in false positives of 92%.

Results from a recent clinical trial conducted by Dr. Mark Rupp, Chief of Infectious Diseases at University of Nebraska Medical Center, were published in Clinical Infectious Diseases, July 2017. Steripath demonstrated a 0.2% blood culturecontamination rate sustained for an entire year, representing a 92% reduction compared to the pre-trial contamination rate of 2.6% with an estimated annual savings of $1.8 million dollars for their facility.

Magnolia is establishing a new standard-of-care for blood culture integrity and sepsis testing accuracy. Dr. Richard Patton, the company’s co-founder and Medical Director, invented and patented the Initial Specimen Diversion Technique (ISDT™) and Initial Specimen Diversion Device (ISDD®) for blood culture collection, and wrote the seminal peer-reviewed publication on this technique published in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology in 2010.

Magnolia has amassed an extensive IP portfolio protecting its products including 60 issued method, apparatus and design patents encompassing nearly 600 claims. The company also has more than 50 additional pending patent applications filed to date. The total potential market for Magnolia’s technology exceeds $2.0 billion annually.
