Job description
The purpose of this position is to maintain and improve the health and well-being and quality of life of all City residents. This is accomplished by enforcing laws, ordinances, and regulations; conducting inspections of restaurants, grocery stores, daycares, schools, food banks, market venders, convenience stores and grease interceptors; and ensuring that all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner. Other duties include investigating food establishment complaints and food borne illnesses; investigating complaints and nuisances that may endanger public health or violate the Property Maintenance Code; assisting with property maintenance training and enforcement as assigned; attending meetings as assigned; providing excellent customer service; maintaining inspection documents; and collaborating with other divisions, departments and bureaus in the enforcement and inspections of City buildings and properties.
Performs inspections for all food establishments with a current health license; performing re-inspections for non-compliant facilities; inspecting homes for unsanitary infestations, code violations or unfit conditions; performing grease interceptor inspections; and inspecting special events.
Provides support to other divisions within the Bureau by training newly hired inspectors; filling in for absences; and participating in special details.
Provides clerical support by filing documents; managing billing orders; preparing spreadsheets; entering inspections into State system; preparing various reports; filing citations; answering and returning phone calls; generating new licenses; documenting training of other inspectors; and maintaining documents of inspections and investigations.
Provides customer service by consulting with prospective food owners and operators; consulting with public for complaints and/or health/code-related concerns; and walking through establishments prior to opening for a pre-inspection.

Over five (5) years in health/code enforcement experience.
Servsafe Certification
Valid Class C license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
All persons who become employed by the city on or after the effective date of this section (May 19, 2022) shall be or become residents of York County or any county contiguous to York County (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Hartford, Baltimore, and Carroll Counties), within six months from the first date the employee achieves permanent employment status.
Must pass a background check, Drug Test and provide a PA Child Abuse History Clearance Certificate.
Note: Child Abuse History Clearance must be dated within one year from the date of application and must show that "no record exists".
