Job description
Salary: $76,437.30/annual minimum - $114,655.84/annual max (Depending on qualifications)
The Public Safety Communications Manager is responsible for supervising and managing the daily administrative tasks and support functions to dispatch. Supervise subordinate shift supervisors.
SUPERVISION
General Supervision is provided by a Police Deputy Chief.
- All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Plan, administer and direct the activities of the Communications Section.
- Maintain a well-informed awareness of current telecommunications issues to provide dispatch with the knowledge of the best practices in that area of expertise.
- Recruit employees and maintain allocated staffing levels.
- Coordinate efforts between the Police and Fire Departments to achieve the best policies and practices to respond to public demands.
- Review and make recommendations to ensure accuracy and adherence to all 911 services agreements, state and local regulations, and telephone provider needs.
- Oversee Terminal Agency Coordinator responsibilities for NLETS/TLETS as required by the state and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
- Analyze dispatch center equipment needs and make recommendations.
- Work with outside vendors to resolve equipment failures in a 24-hour work environment.
- Operate a city vehicle.
- Direct, control, and plan operations in dispatch.
- Prepare statistical, financial, and other reports as requested by command staff.
- Complete background checks of city employees.
- Answer and direct public inquiries in person or on the phone.
- Review and approve disciplinary recommendations.
- Work in dispatch and dispatch calls for service as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED.
College level courses in communications and supervision is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
5 Years experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher or Lead Communication position.
3 Years experience as a supervisor of public safety personnel.
3 Years knowledge of current modern telecommunication practices.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid Class C Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Basic Telecommunications Certificate from any state.
WORK SCHEDULEMonday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
