Job Title: CommUNITY School Coordinator

Areas of Responsibility: CommUNITY School at Hixson Elementary School

Reports to: Chief Education Officer at NNH; School Principal

Hours/Schedule: 40 hrs/week with hours varying from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (M-Th) and 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. Some varying hours may occur.

Preferred Start Date: June 1, 2023

Job Summary: The HES CommUNITY School Coordinator will execute the vision for and oversee all activities of the CommUNITY School. The CommUNITY School Coordinator will secure and coordinate services and programs that occur on site by applying national community school best practices from a whole child approach. This person will work closely with the NNH, Principal, and key stakeholders to plan services and evaluate successes. HES CommUNITY School is a trauma-informed school. A successful candidate will have demonstrated success in developing positive and supportive relationships with students and their families, identifying community resources, coordinating services to meet SEL needs, developing and implementing relevant programming and reporting outcomes, including after school programming.

Details: 40 hours Full-time exempt salary employee; Position includes PTO, Holiday Pay, 85% paid health insurance, dental insurance, EAP, life and long term disability in addition to 3% retirement match after employee is vested (waiting period does apply).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Coordination of services

  • Create and conduct a comprehensive, participatory needs/assets assessment of the school and community in partnership with the Principal, school and community stakeholders
  • Raise awareness of partner resources and match school’s needs with those resources
  • Serve as liaison between school and external partners to promote communication, planning and collaboration among partners
  • Develop and coordinate new partnerships guided by needs assessment, community school strategies, and School Improvement Plan.
  • Work with school faculty, staff and partners to develop student supports and services
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school policies and procedures that integrate community school strategies with the overall school goals
  • Facilitate joint planning among school leadership, partners, service providers, and others responsible for programs in learning, health and family engagement at assigned based on individual school needs
  • Steward relationships with partners by organizing and participating in regular partner meetings and other opportunities for information sharing and relationship building that foster shared ownership and responsibility.
  • Manage the service coordination of school-based supports, including scheduling and the tracking and monitoring of data to support strategy implementation and evaluation.
  • Convene regularly scheduled partner meetings to ensure joint planning and maximum service integration
  • Build awareness and expand the reach of the community school strategy in the identified school and surrounding community through strategic communications and community engagement efforts that work to elevate the stories and voice of the youth and families served by the school and community resources.

Support CommUNITY School Team and Stakeholders

  • Implement and maintain site systems to support full-service community schools model, including but not limited to tools for cross-referral of students and families between service providers, ongoing communication, data collection and planning between service providers, faculty, staff, parents and students; and site planning, budgeting and reporting
  • Organize, train, and develop parent leaders to connect to the school, academic achievement and school decision-making.
  • Recruit, train, and help manage volunteers in support of CommUNITY School efforts.
  • Link students to available resources to address attendance, behavior or academic achievement needs in coordination with school leadership
  • Develop and publicize programs and activities offered at assigned school including a marketing and outreach strategy to promote opportunities for youth and families
  • Represents school at community meetings and events.

Program Construct and Implementation

  • Design and implement out of school time programming (after school, summer) for students, including supervising support staff and volunteers.
  • Assures the functioning of all community school core components are effectively linked to programs and fulfill the basic principles of community schools.
  • Develops programs that aim to increase educational opportunities and social connections for

children, families and neighborhood residents.

  • Identifies and recruits partner organizations to host services at site that aim to increase educational

opportunities and social connections for children, families and neighborhood residents.

Communication and Documentation

  • Performs administrative tasks for the day to day management and coordination of activities.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Maintain all required documentation
  • Complete regular grant reports as needed for various funding sources (public and private)

Team Cohesion

  • Responsible for facilitating and attending mandatory site-related meetings
  • Attend agency meetings and events
  • Complete required training on time
  • Maintain compliance with agency policies and procedures
  • Prepare for and attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and the professional standards.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled school meetings and professional development

Other duties as assigned by the school principal and Chief Education Officer.

  • Able to be flexible with scheduling.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education or related field.
  • Preferred two or more years of school related experience,
  • Preferred two or more years of nonprofit experience.
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone and other office equipment. Requires hearing and vision necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
