Department Marketing Statement
Residential & Community Living is responsible for the overall student life program in eight residence halls and nine apartment complexes (10,000+ residents) with a focus on student development and leadership programs, a residential curriculum approach, and conduct and accountability. In addition, R&CL is responsible for resident placement through University and Community Housing Services.

Brief Summary of Job Duties
Under the general supervision of the Residential Student Conduct Manager and the Assistant Dean of Students/Associate Director of Student Conduct, the Conduct Officer is charged with the responsibility of articulating and educating the Housing and Residential Communities on resident policies, procedures and community standards. The Conduct Officer:
- Develops and implements programs for Lead staff, resident assistants and student-residents on Residence Hall/Apartment Living community standards
- Assists in the investigation, adjudication and general resolution of cases referred to Resident Student Conduct (Housing) and the Office of Judicial Affairs
- Maintains and updates the curriculum for HDAE Personal Responsibility and Fire Safety courses. Leads/co-leads the facilitation of these courses throughout the academic year
- Serves as an institutional contact and referral point for students, parents and clients who have questions and concerns regarding the judicial process.
- Co-advises and trains the Peer Review Board
- Responsible for maintaining the conduct case management database/system (Advocate)
- Responsible for the coordination of conduct hearings and restorative justice circles
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working in a confidential environment.
- Experience adjudicating a student conduct caseload with strict adherence to due process procedures.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills in working with college students; para-professional counseling skills required.
- Strong analytical and computer skills for the collecting, coding and recording of disciplinary files.
- Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree, preferably in Higher Education, Counseling, or other related field.
- Experience in a 4-year college/university
- Mediation skills

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties
JUDICIAL CASE MANAGEMENT - 35%
- Coordinates the recruitment, selection, training, and management of Peer Review Board members and Hearing Officers.
- Facilitates Conduct Hearings.
- Investigates conduct cases and makes appropriate decisions regarding appropriate jurisdiction (Administrative, Formal, Restorative Justice, Mediation, Counseling.)
- Conducts Pre-hearing conferences with residents and staff to gather pertinent information, explains hearing process, describes the rights of the resident(s) and answers any questions that may arise.
- Prepares the post-hearing recommendation letters of the hearing body and final decision of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Housing, Dining, and Auxiliary Enterprises (or appropriate Director).
- Interfaces with third parties (parents, faculty, friends, etc.) as it relates to case resolution as appropriate.
CONFLICT / DISCIPLINARY RESOLUTION - 40%
- Serves as a departmental Mediator
- Serves as a departmental facilitator for Restorative Justice.
- Conducts follow-up meetings and writes behavioral contracts with residents who show an inability for self-care with regard to alcohol, other drugs, or other concerning behaviors.
- Trains live-in staff on conflict related skills.
- Conducts follow-up meetings with live-in professional staff to insure their adherence to departmental protocols.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES - 15%
- Codes, files, and logs all departmental student conduct information reports and hearing documents into Advocate.
- Creates and maintains files pertaining to hearing, confidential letters, and administrative letters.
- Compiles quarterly reports and summaries noting all violations and hearings held.
- Schedules meetings and appointments for conduct matters.
- Regularly monitors the process by which staff members submit disciplinary Information Reports to insure accuracy, confidentiality, and timeliness.
DEPT. LIAISON - 10%
- Represents the department and/or unit through service on campus, community, and professional organizations as identified by supervisor.
