Primary Responsibilities

The primary duties of the Construction Project Manager are to managerially, technically and administratively represent a project owner throughout construction on a variety of public infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities include managing in-house and sub-consultant staff and perform as point person for construction contract oversight.

Working with general supervision and support from senior HDR staff, this person will supervise and direct the activities of the field team and maintain healthy relationships with the client and all oversight organizations.

The position requires experience with public contracts, familiarity with codes/ laws governing construction, and strong leadership, managerial and technical skills directly applicable to heavy civil construction.

Responsibilities also include participation in the preconstruction phase of project development, reviewing and observing all construction contractor activities, documenting construction, initiating change proposals for design team review and approval, estimating cost of changes, negotiating costs with contractor, recommending acceptance to owner and writing and issuing field change orders, managing compliance with applicable permits, laws, & oversight agencies, and managing construction disputes & claims.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or closely related field.
  • P.E. License required
  • 10 years of progressive local NYC area Construction Management / Resident Engineering Inspection Services experience with transit related clients
  • Experience in various aspects of construction planning and management, including but not limited to estimating, bidding, preparing and administering purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, cost control, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple field projects along with supervising multiple HDR field inspection projects at one time.
  • Ability to prepare and submit technical and cost proposals
  • Experience with construction management software packages and Microsoft Office, Prolog, Primavera, etc.
  • Must have strong people skills and the ability to interact with the design team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates who reside locally in the NY/NJ area are preferred..
  • 15 years Construction Management/Resident Engineering Inspection experience
