Construction Project Manager/Estimator
Job description
Blue River is hiring a Construction Project Manager/Estimator to join our environmental team! This position will be responsible for managing environmental construction projects. The Construction Project Manager/Estimator will prepare bid packages, conceptual estimates, analysis of subcontractor bids, and additional project management duties. This role will require working with owners, A/E's, and project team to resolve technical matters during negotiation and project construction. The individual will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:
CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend site visits, prepare cost estimates and proposals for projects.
- Responsible for all phases of completing estimates or budgets including: adherence to estimating schedule (internal and client schedule); understanding of applicable regulatory compliance; ensure proposal is completed pursuant to client bid proposal requirements; significant contact with clients or client representative, regulatory agencies and subcontractors during the bidding phase of a project.
- Make bid presentations, along with management, to potential customers.
- Utilize HCSS “Heavy Bid” software in preparing estimates.
- Promote estimates into job accounting software.
- Schedule and attend pre-planning & project in-house meetings.
- Provides support to projects/tasks managed by other members of the estimating group.
- Prepare Change Orders and Extra Work pricing.
- Maintains favorable productive client relations throughout project.
- Provides expertise by assisting with project scope, technical approach and resource allocation phases of project development.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with General Superintendents to ensure that the required information and paperwork from the jobs is submitted to the office timely.
- Work with accounting staff to ensure that all Viewpoint information is entered when required, including information entered in the field and change orders so that the information reviewed in the operations meetings is accurate.
- Continually monitor and review critical project information related to budgets, schedules, and production to ensure that the work is being executed according to the estimate/proposal and job safety plan. Immediately communicate cost issues and assist the General Supt, Chief Operating Officer and/or VP of Operations in mitigating project or production issues when encountered.
- Maintain an SOV in Viewpoint on every project.
- Approve vendor and subcontractor payments prepared by accounting.
- Ensure that accounting has all the necessary information to bill projects in accordance with the contract requirements.
- Review and approve customer billings prepared by accounting.
- Manage the project closeout requirements with assistance from accounting.
- Attend weekly job progress meetings.
- Responsible for maintaining good relations with the company’s customers and resolving issues in a manner that protects the relationship over the long term.
- Maintains good communications with and involves the Chief Operating Officer, VP of Operations and General Superintendents on significant project issues that could result in major profit losses or improvements.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Four-year college degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, Construction Management, or related field
OR
- A minimum of four (4) years of construction project management experience in the environmental industry.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are critical for this role.
- Ability to present information in one-on-one and/or small group situations to the customer, client, or project team.
- Strong business writing skills.
- Possess mathematical skills consistent with basic engineering functions.
- Ability to work on new estimates and supervise multiple current projects simultaneously.
- Understanding or ability to learn HCSS Estimating Software, Bluebeam, Trimble, MS Projects, and Viewpoint Construction software.
- Ability to delegate.
- Work with confidential information professionally.
- Travel to project sites may be required.
