Position Title: Cook

Location: Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center, Grand Rapids, MI

Reports To: Food Services Supervisor

Join our team of highly trained, skilled and educated staff as we provide 21st century training, education and job counseling to the students who live and train at our center. The Job Corps program is a federally funded program for youth age 16-24. Our simple purpose is to help young people improve the quality of their lives by empowering them to get great jobs, college opportunities, enlist in the military and other training and apprenticeships in order to become independent. Summary of Duties: The Cook position is responsible for coordinating meal preparation, supervises kitchen and cafeteria activities, and keeps a clean and safe environment.

Description of Duties:

• Prepares and serves appetizing, attractive, and nutritional meals in accordance with planned menu.
• Uses food service equipment including meat slicer, blender, food processor, mixer, ovens, grill, knives and other items as necessary.
• Handles food in a sanitary manner, including receipt, preparation and storage.
• Ensures the maintenance and proper temperature for hot and cold food items. Maintains food temperature records.
• Maintains acceptable standards of personal and area cleanliness when handling and preparing meals. Maintains a safe work environment. Keeps assigned work areas well organized and clean.
• Prepares monthly inventories. Maintains daily usage logs Records number of meals served at each mealtime and documents number of staff and visitors.
• Ensures proper storage of usable and non-usable leftovers. Records usage of leftovers.
• Cleans, sanitizes, and ensures equipment is maintained in good working order. Maintains equipment logs.
• Prepares food in large quantities in accordance with defined specific tasks or standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Cleans, mops, and empties waste when assigned or as needed.

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Certifications/Licenses:

• Valid state driver’s license
• CPR/First Aid certifications (training provided upon hire)
