Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
In alignment with the mission of Student Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Office of Off-Campus Student Life is committed to educating all students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional) in life skills related to living off campus and in the community. These skills include:
Becoming responsible tenants and community members knowledgeable of city ordinances and community quality of life issues
Making informed choices about housing and roommates
Gaining proficiency in problem solving when landlord and roommate difficulties arise
Understanding personal safety and responsibility
It is no accident that, with very few exceptions, every Carolina first-year undergraduate lives on campus or in Granville Towers. On campus housing helps undergraduate students form the connections necessary for a more successful transition into the University environment. Research clearly concludes that students who chose to live on campus are more likely to perform better academically, have a greater persistence toward their degree completion, and form healthy relationships with faculty, staff, and students. At Carolina, almost 70% of all sophomores also live on campus.
For many students, transitioning into off campus housing is as much a part of their college experience as first moving into the residence halls. For graduate and professional students, living in graduate housing like Baity Hill or in the community (Chapel Hill, Carrboro, or beyond) during their entire time at Carolina fits with their place in life and needs as a post-college adult. But, there can be significant challenges when leaving the intentional structure of an on-campus living environment. We are here to help students navigate their way as successful neighbors in our greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro community. We advocate for and educate toward the development of students as knowledgeable, active, and responsible community citizens. Students living off campus and in the community have rights and responsibilities associated with their pursuit of an enjoyable and safe living experience. We provide services and educational opportunities to promote the understanding of these rights and responsibilities throughout the off-campus student population.

Position Summary
Off-Campus Student Life (OCSL), a department within Student Affairs, provides education, advising, resources, and support for all Carolina students who are exploring living off campus, are in transition to living off campus, and who currently reside off campus. The office connects students with the information they need to make informed decisions about living off campus, offers guidance and programming to promote being a positive contributor to a high quality of life in near-campus and downtown neighborhoods, and helps to address community concerns when behavioral issues arise off campus. OCSL partners with campus departments and community agencies to advance programs such as the Good Neighbor Initiative, Party Registration program, Tar Heel Citizen Times e-newsletter, and the Neighborhood Education and Advocacy Team.
The Coordinator will be a primary point of contact for Off-Campus Student Life, managing the day-to-day operations of the off-campus housing program, managing coordination of Good Neighbor Initiative programming, and serving as a source of knowledge for both students, campus partners, and community partners related to resources, policies, and procedures. The position will involve planning, problem-solving, and coordination with significant responsibility and autonomy. The Coordinator will plan and execute events, manage marketing and communication, and manage new and existing relationships on and off-campus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Demonstrated experience working with program and/or event planning and management.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Demonstrated experience leading the planning and management of educational programs and community events with partner organizations; experience with program marketing (including use of social media to drive awareness and attendance); experience leading educational training in-person and via virtual platforms; experience working with college students.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
