PRIMARY DUTY: The Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion will provide administrative and support services to help develop social justice competencies within the campus and community while aiding in supporting historically underrepresented student’s access, persistence, and graduation from Northwest Missouri State University. As part of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Coordinator will focus on helping lead the strategic diversity and inclusion goals of the University. This position will provide programming and development around inclusion topics and serve as a liaison to aid in increasing campus and community climate will be key focus areas for this position. The Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion will work to develop strategic initiatives to help move forward in the areas of intercultural competence, social justice education, and creating an inclusive campus environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community members and possess a commitment to social justice and inclusivity.
  • Use best practices to support diversity and inclusion within institutions of higher education
  • Develop, implement, facilitate, coordinate, and assess programming to promote diversity, cultural awareness and inclusion within the campus community
  • Serve as a social resource and liaison for historically underrepresented students in connecting them with University services
  • Serve as a liaison between the City of Maryville and University to continue to aid in moving campus and community diversity climate forward
  • Assist in the organization of a variety of campus events that celebrate different identities and also educate about systems of oppression and how to dismantle these oppressive systems
  • Develop and deliver community-based educational programs to stimulate and promote intercultural and global understanding and appreciation
  • Serve on University committees, task forces, and teams
  • Coordinate all social media efforts for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion
  • Assist the Assistant Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion in creating an inclusive campus environment and work effectively with other Diversity and Inclusion staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Experience: At least one year of experience working with diverse groups of people, and coordinating programs; working knowledge of social justice education, systems of oppression, and cultural competency
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to assist historically underrepresented students in facing the special challenges encountered on a predominately white campus; strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage projects and design/implement/evaluate programs; working knowledge of student development practices

WORKING CONDITIONS: Air-conditioned office. Some nights and weekend hours required.
