Crew Member – Weatherization – FAYETTEVILLE, NC

Employment Type: Full-time/Non-exempt/Hourly
Starting Hourly Rate: $16.00
Schedule: Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm, some nights and weekends

OVERVIEW OF GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

POSITION SUMMARY
Perform skilled energy efficiency work. Responsible for installing materials at designated homes, such as air sealing, and caulking; performs home maintenance repairs including installation of drywall, lumber, water heaters, etc. Work is performed in accordance with Department of Energy rules and regulations by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Employee is expected to be courteous and polite to customers and co-workers in all interactions, ensuring good customer service reports. Familiarity with energy efficiency concepts and practices is critical to excellence in job performance. Employee must follow OSHA safety guidelines in safe and proper installation and usage of equipment. Effective communication skills to explain techniques and supportive reasons for work are essential to this job position.
  • Conducts air sealing measures such as: caulking weather-stripping, sealing ducts, installing insulation, replacing thermostats.
  • Installs carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Uses gauges to detect leaks from gas lines, electrical outlets, etc.
  • Makes minor repairs to roof and interior by installing materials such as drywall, lumber and glass. May make minor repairs to windows and doors when required by standards.
  • Communicates weatherization repair work to customers. Educates customers on energy savings measures that will assist them in reducing energy usage and bills.
  • Performs varied but standardized home energy efficient tasks in accordance with a preapproved work plan and in compliance with established energy regulations. Work must meet a high-quality standard and performed with skill to prevent injury to self and co-workers or customers and to safeguard tools and waste of materials through carelessness.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor to ensure program goals and objectives are met on time and meet quality standards as established by the agency.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the policies, procedures and practices of the agency. Qualifications:
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
Technical school courses in basic industrial, carpentry or “green” work, trade courses or experience in heating, cooling, plumbing or electrical occupations preferred. An Energy Efficiency Certification is desired.

Experience: Two years of related work experience.

Computer Skills
Basic computer knowledge and understanding are required.

Certificates & Licenses
It is the employee's responsibility to obtain and keep current all certifications, licenses, etc., at all times during the length of employment.
No licenses or certifications are required. A NC Driver's license is preferred.

Other Requirements
Employee needs a working knowledge of the techniques for installing and repairing of windows, doors, floors, ceilings, and roofs.
Employee must be able to assess work and apply quality standards to outcomes.
Employee must be able to operate energy testing equipment such as blower door technologies, furnace efficiency equipment, carbon monoxide testers, etc.
