Role Mission:
The Culture Associate supports the school’s Principal and leadership team in cultivating a positive, supportive school culture for all scholars. In this role, you will develop as a leader and support the school’s efforts to create a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and joyful school culture. The Associate Dean of Culture will report directly to the Assistant Principal - Culture (APC) and receive coaching from the Principal, APC, and the network-wide Manager of Culture.
Your Impact:
Student Culture
- Build positive relationships with students grounded in respect, enthusiasm, achievement, courage, hard work and self-determination through structured social-emotional learning;
- Teach and reinforce VCP’s school-wide behavior management systems;
- Help ensure that behavioral expectations and school culture standards are met inside of the classroom as well as outside, including supervision and support of behavior and culture during bus rides, cafeteria/meal times, enrichment, and dismissal;
- Support the APC as the point person for student culture and discipline, including behavioral crisis intervention;
- Support the APC in maintaining accurate student discipline records, documenting all conferences, suspensions, and phone calls;
Teacher Coaching and Support
- Support teachers in holding all students to consistent, high behavioral expectations for all students;
- Act as a resource to teachers in their instructional practice, especially as it relates to issues of relationships with students, classroom management, and school culture;
- Support staff efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time;
- Assist in the creation and implementation of individual behavior plans as assigned;
Parent and Family Engagement
- Develop and maintain communicative relationships with families, emphasizing families’ roles as collaborators and accountability partners for their student’s academic and behavioral performance, including attendance;
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student performance and academic achievement;
- Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively as assigned;
- Support staff in coordinating family meetings and special events;
School Leadership
- Collaborate with the Principal and leadership team to establish a positive, structure, achievement-oriented, and joyful school culture;
- Participate in regular leadership team meetings at the school level and network level;
- Lead staff trainings or portions of trainings as assigned and with the support of the APC;
- Proactively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways during the day to gain valuable context on student behavior, support positive school culture, and maintain highly visible presence during school hours;
- Teach whole or small-group classes as assigned;
- Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout the year.
Your Qualifications:
- Passionate commitment to the mission of Vista College Prep
- Track record of producing dramatic, demonstrable student achievement gains or comparable results;
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to consistently deliver on time, even amidst many moving parts;
- Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Spanish proficiency or fluency preferred, but not required;
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s degree preferred;
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in urban public school setting preferred, but not required;
- Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card.
