The City of Bangor has a great new career opportunity as the Custodial & Janitorial Maintenance Worker for the Community Connector! This position performs custodial duties and minor maintenance of Community Connector buildings, equipment, and grounds, including the new Transit Center (opening in the Fall, in the downtown area) and office/bus barn complex (on Maine Ave.).
Some of the duties of this position include: *

- Sweeps and mops floors, corridors, halls, and stairways; cleans washbowls, drinking fountains, toilets and floors; cleans and maintains buses, vans, and bus shelters.
- Washes windows; oils or waxes floors; polishes furniture; vacuums and shampoos rugs.
- Removes and properly disposes of rubbish and wastepaper from buildings and vehicles; empties outside trashcans.
- Performs minor building maintenance on a variety of objects including but not limited to, the replacement of windows, repair of locks, replacement of light bulbs and painting as necessary.
- Cleans stairways, walkways/handicap ramps, and immediate surrounding grounds of snow and ice and applies ice melt or salt before and during all events as required.
- Performs light mowing/weed eating to ensure clean appearance of building exterior and grounds.
- Routine maintenance on equipment such as vacuum cleaners and pressure washers.
- Interact with and assist customers when necessary.
- Coordinates activities of agency bus cleaning personnel.
- Observes safety rules and precautions to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
- Inventories janitorial products for orders with vendors.
- Performs related work as required.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and knowledge:
- Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment. Knowledge of basic building maintenance practices.
- Skill in the use of tools and materials commonly used in building cleaning activities.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks in the field of carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
- Ability to assist general public in a professional manner.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written work assignments.
- Able to physically withstand long hours of manual tasks.
- Qualified to legally operate motor vehicle; valid driver’s license.
The pay range for this position is $16.33 to $21.96 per hour (based on a 40-hour work week) and includes a comprehensive full -time benefits package. Some* of the benefit highlights include: *
