Job Description
Drives City-owned vehicle and/or walks to read residential and commercial utility meters on an assigned route and records consumption. Uses assigned electronic equipment and software for meter duties. Delivers shutoff notices to eligible customers per city ordinance. Processes late payment notices for delivery. Assists Collections with miscellaneous administrative duties. Processes work orders for initiation and termination of services, re-reading of meters, inspection for potential tampering, installation and removal of metes. Takes accurate, legible photographs of meters and utility facilities for documentation purposes. Checks meter function and reports any unusual physical condition of the meter or meter boxes. Inspects visible plumbing for water leaks. Inspects electrical and water meters for damage and unauthorized connections. Makes arithmetical calculations involving customer utility consumption and rates. Under the general direction of the Supervisor, works independently in the field to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. May perform other related duties as assigned. Additional Information
STARTING HOURLY PAY: $12.53 P/H

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
One (1) year combined experience installing and/or repairing water, gas, and/or electric utilities, or experience in the field of construction, maintenance, water or wastewater will be considered
Valid driver's license (state of residence) that meets City's insurability requirements
Satisfactory utility payment history with the City of Gallup utilities service as applicable

Other Conditions:
Must pass a background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) year of experience in customer service which involved public contact
One (1) year of working knowledge of City and County Streets
