Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Deputy – Information Technology, this individual monitors and assesses the organization’s information security and makes recommendations for improvement; and schedules / performs periodic penetration tests, vulnerability assessments, and risk assessments. They maintain and monitor all security systems and investigate alerts and events as needed. They will contribute to the District’s cybersecurity policies and procedures and ensure that the District maintains compliance.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the design of security controls with a focus on information security’s best practices, design, and implementation. Will assist management in execution of NTMWD Cybersecurity Program.

2. Obtains, monitors, reviews, and analyzes reports, logs, and other security-related information from various tools, network and other computing devices, external intelligence sources, employees, and partners.

3. Utilizes security logs and tools to identify vulnerabilities in systems and detect anomalous activity.

4. Liaises with network operations, application, server, and workstation groups to deliver actionable guidance to mitigate risk from the evolving threat environment and existing vulnerabilities.

5. Proactively identifies gaps in the security visibility provided by current tools and services. Maintains threat landscape awareness.

6. Works to identify critical event data for additional analysis and escalation as appropriate.

7. Responds to reported security incidents and events through the Company’s ticketing system.

8. Utilizes all available resources to provide real-time intelligence during incident-response activities.

9. Performs incident forensics.

10. Writes documentation and reports.

11. Evaluates new security technology, processes, and trends.

12. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Experience with security tools such as firewalls, anti-malware, Intrusion Detection / Intrusion Prevention systems (IDS / IPS), Data Leak Prevention (OLP), Unified Threat Management (UTM), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM).

2. Ability to maintain and improve Cyber knowledge skillset

3. Ability to utilize multiple resources to maintain threat landscape knowledge

4. Familiarity with common information security standards such as ISO-27000 and NIST SP 800 series.

5. Applicable knowledge of information technology and networking.

6. Ability to review reports and system activity logs to identify critical events, categorize according to priority, and escalate as appropriate.

7. Strong analytical skills.

8. Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.

Education and Experience:

1. Industry security certifications such as Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), Security+, Associate of (ISC)2 or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) desirable.

2. Experience with securing cloud workloads (Azure/AWS) is a plus.

3. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, equivalent combined education and experience.

Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

This position requires minimum physical exertion with daily lifting requirements up to 50 pounds. Significant finger dexterity required. Activities may include carrying office materials, pulling and pushing file drawers and organizing paperwork. Duties are almost always carried out in an office environment. Equipment used includes a Network Computer System and/or personal computer, various printers, calculators, copier and telephone.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,847.00 - $104,853.00 per year
