POSITION SUMMARY: The Healthcare Data Analyst provides programming support to key business initiatives, including clinical quality, operations, and finance. The analyst constructs spreadsheets and reports that may include information on trends and provide statistical data that the organization can use as a source for determining which adjustments and changes to implement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluates information needs of the organization and assists in determining operational, utilization, quality, service, and financial objectives.

• Assists in resolving organizational information problems by designing, developing, and producing standardized and ad hoc reports.

• Prioritizes data requests from users.

• Recommends system controls and solutions.

• Assists leadership by producing reports to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pilot programs, improve quality, and reduce unnecessary utilization.

• Assists the Chief Quality Officer (CQO) to identify trends and shifts in population health management, care coordination, and disease management in the continuum of care.

• Attends OPCA, OCHIN, and CCO committee meetings related to data functions.

• Maintains total patient and organizational confidentiality.

• Integrates data from multiple sources to support various organization business units.

• Codes clinical data for national measures based on complex specification documents.

• Explains data sources and coding decisions to a lay audience.

• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:

1. Four-year bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, Information Technology, Finance, or related field highly desirable. May be substituted with a combination of education and relevant work experience.

2. Minimum two years health care reporting and/or financial analysis experience, preferably in a health plan or medical services organization environment.

3. Expertise in data collection, management, and analysis required.

4. Experience with healthcare, Medicaid, and regulatory or health policy experience desirable.

5. Experience extracting data and automating reports in SQL

6. Experience developing database reports and applications.

7. Experience providing data analysis support to quality improvement initiatives.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of principles and practices of information technology reporting, including query languages, data mining, relational database creation, and project management.

2. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

3. Ability to create pivot tables, charts, and graphs in MS Excel.

4. Ability to automate Excel reports using VBA.

5. Ability to manage Microsoft Access databases, including forms, reports, and macros.

6. Ability to configure, manage, and maintain SQL Server databases.

7. Ability to translate data into graphs and charts to facilitate reader's understanding of information.

8. Ability to communicate effectively throughout the organization with physicians, staff, and executives.

9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven technical writing skills.

10. Ability to work independently with good judgment and discretion.
