JOB SUMMARY

Under direction of the supervising dentist performs work relating to the assistance of the general dentist in daily patient care activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists the dentist in patient examination.

2. Takes bitewing and panorex radiographs as required.

3. Develops radiographs.

4. Takes alginate impressions and pours up models.

5. Knowledgeable in composite finishing/polishing procedures.

6. Prepares all instruments for dentist according to procedure to be done.

7. Assists dentist with routine and operatory procedures.

8. Operatory set-up and breakdown as needed.

9. Anticipate dentist needs based on knowledge of dental procedures.

10. Assist with calming and focusing patients for procedures.

11. Review oral surgery post operative instructions with patients.

12. Clean patient care rooms after each patient visit.

13. Sterilize equipment and instruments as needed.

14. Assists hygienist with periodontal charting.

15. Review oral hygiene instructions with patients.

16. Keep track of specialized supplies, equipment, and orders.

17. Maintains patient confidentiality.

18. Performs related work as required.

19. Answers the phone and schedules appointments as needed.

20. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduate or GED

Graduation from an accredited dental assistant program.

Knowledgeable in dental terminology and thorough knowledge of tooth numbers and surfaces, instruments, and nomenclature.

Minimum of one year experience as a dental assistant preferred.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.'
