Shelter Support Staff
Safe Voices, a domestic violence and sex trafficking resource center serving Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties is hiring for a full-time Shelter Support Staff Person. This position is based in Androscoggin County and has limited travel needs.
What is this job like? Our shelter is a 17-bed communal living facility serving all survivors of domestic abuse and violence, regardless of gender identity. A pet-friendly shelter, support staff should be comfortable with animals and their care, as well as providing emotional and crisis support as well as advocacy to guests. This is not an overnight position.

Primary Duties:
- Assisting with day-to-day operations of the shelter including meeting resident needs within the communal living environment, monitoring, and restocking food supplies, organizing donations, assisting with internal office procedures and tasks, and monitoring the maintenance of shelter as assigned.
- Provide crisis support, emotional support, and advocacy
- Coordinate care of shelter animals including emotional support animals, therapeutic animals, service animals, and pets.
- Support shelter case managers
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of domestic violence
- Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest levels of safety and professionalism
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Possess good communication skills, be dependable and flexible in an ever-changing environment, and adhere to strict documentation guidelines.
- Must be able to pass a criminal, driving and DHHS/CPS background check.
Preferred qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited four (4) year institution is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel in varying weather conditions
- Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
- Adhere to universal safety precautions
Pay & Benefits
- Pay starts at $21.74 per hour and will increase based on experience
