Job Description

TITLE: DIRECTOR, STRIVE JOB CLASSIFICATION

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Vocational and Workforce Training Full-time/Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Vice President, the Director of the STRIVE Program is responsible for the overall administration of the unit. He/she will have direct responsibility for personnel, fiscal management, and to ensure that youth admitted to this program receive quality care which promotes social, cultural, educational, and physical development. He/she will reflect and display the Character Development core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report any suspected child abuse to DYS and State agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with the Old Colony Y, DEEC, DYS, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee the clinical, educational, and medical components.
  • Oversee the admission, treatment, and discharge of all clients.
  • Ensure that shift work and employee meeting schedules are complete every two weeks.
  • Oversee resident family meetings.
  • Provide monthly reports to DYS.

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL

  • Oversee the hiring, training, and supervision of all unit personnel.
  • Specifically supervise the Assistant Director, Clinical Coordinator, Secretary, Maintenance, and Cook.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer, manage and balance the unit budget.
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies regarding petty cash, vouchers, purchase orders, and employee expenses.

FACILITY/HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure emergency procedures (fire, safety, and medical) are adhered to accordingly and clearly posted on the unit.
  • Ensure the upkeep and cleanliness of the unit.

COMMUNITY/VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participate in the Y's Annual Strong Kids' Campaign and United Way Campaign by completing all required tasks as assigned.
  • Represent the Old Colony Y at community agency meetings as assigned.
  • Act as liaison with the DYS area office.
  • Responsible for positive community relationships, i.e. police, local colleges, schools and aftercare programs.
  • Attend DYS program meetings as scheduled.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Must be eligible for YMCA Multi Team Leader.
  • Possess a BA/BS or Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Possess a minimum of 8 years experience, 3 years of which should be in a supervisory capacity working with at-risk youth.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written skills and be knowledgeable and experienced with regulatory requirements regarding clinical and behavioral concerns of individuals.
  • Certified as an OCY/NJDA trainer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Capable of consistently and successfully dealing with clients with severe, emotional and behavioral problems
  • Must have visual and auditory acuity in order to maintain security of the program
  • Must be able to restrain up to 140 lbs with or without assistance
  • Must be able to walk, sit, run and stand during the work shift
  • Must be able to drive clients in the community as needed by the program.

CLOSING STATEMENT

To enhance the overall operation of the Old Colony Y and support teamwork, the Director will accept additional responsibilities as assigned.
