The Health System Director of Accounting maintains and is responsible for all Health System consolidated accounting functions, including maintenance & structure of ERP for hospitals and affiliates, optimization of the treasury function, compilation and analysis of consolidated financial statements, liaison for various annual financial & regulatory audits & required filings, non-patient A/R billing, fixed asset capitalization and depreciation, accounts payable, payroll, 990 and related sales tax filings, and effective internal controls. • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related field required.
• CPA required. Master’s preferred.

Experience

• 10 years of accounting experience required and 5 years of healthcare accounting preferred.
• 7 years of management experience required.
• Proven leadership and team building skills; Demonstrated success in management and supervision of Finance and Accounting functions
• Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Effective interpersonal, organizational, analytical, financial, problem solving and communication skills
• Previous public accounting experience is highly preferred.
• Superior attention to detail and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with ERP/Accounting system such as Workday is a plus

Position Highlights:

• The System Director of Accounting reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Finance
  • 3 Direct Reports, 30 FTE’s and a budget responsibility of $7M

DUTIES:

• Demonstrates knowledge of financial management, by planning, preparing and achieving annual budget goals.
• Monitors variances to the monthly budget and makes appropriate recommendations and adjustments to meet expenditure guidelines. Addresses and communicates variances to appropriate management.
• Evaluates equipment and supplies to provide optimum service at minimum cost.
• Effectively utilize staff within staffing guidelines and budgetary constraints.
• Identifies areas for cost improvement and makes recommendations for service program or departmental initiatives.
• Responsible for the preparation of VHC Health Consolidated Financial Statements in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with VHC Health policies and procedures and other regulatory bodies.
• Manages the monthly financial close process within the deadlines determined for financial reporting.
• Timely reporting of all information utilized in board and committee packets.
• Responsible for Balance Sheet reconciliations prepared timely and with supporting documentation that reconciles to the applicable general ledger account.
• Effective setup and maintenance of the master GL structure and chart of accounts for the hospital and all affiliates; ensuring business and reporting flexibility.
• Provides review of capital items and ensures all fixed assets are reconciled timely and booked in accordance with GAAP and VHC Health policies and procedures.
• Ensures the integrity of the VHC Health Financial Statements which are critical to the Health System.
• Management of Departmental Processes: General Accounting - Manages all general accounting functions including general ledger, treasury, tax planning and preparation, and other regulatory reporting.
• Management of Departmental Processes: Accounts Payable - Responsible for the effective and efficient management of Accounts Payable. Ensures Accounts Payable processes meet best practices paying vendors timely and accurately, taking discounts when offered and paid in accordance with VHC Health policies and procedures.
• Management of Departmental Processes: Payroll - Responsible for the effective and efficient management of Payroll.
• Directs Annual Audit and Other Required Reporting - Plans, organizes, and coordinates the year-end close process with external financial auditors. Ensures the preparation of auditor-requested information is prepared timely and with precision.
