About This Opportunity
The Director of Design Services is responsible for overseeing the production of projects and growing our Design and Structural Engineering practices; assisting in the management of the office with the goals of meeting the annual business plan goals and continually improving service to our clients; and participating in the marketing/sales for the office.
Successful candidates for this opportunity is a Registered Structural Engineer with an entrepreneurial spirit, extensive management experience, competency in managing design projects that are large and complex in nature. As you work alongside Walker's staff, you will be able to grow in your career, make an impact on the projects you work on and exercise your expertise.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects, staff, overhead and marketing efforts to achieve department or office profit target.
- Manage quality assurance within the office.
- Assists in the planning, budgeting, scheduling, conducting or coordination of detailed phases of the engineering work on a project.
- Serves as lead designer in structural engineering aspects of a project.
- Lead and manage staff and department/office to maximize and streamline the effectiveness of the team.
- Encourage and support professional development of staff through internal and external training.
- Coach, mentor and evaluate the performance of direct reports.
- Proactively seek opportunities to target and court potential hires, i.e., conventions, project work, employee referrals, etc.
Qualifications and Competencies
Education Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited University, Master's degree preferred.
Other Requirements:
- 10 years of project engineering and management experience.
- Registered Structural Engineer by examination in California.
- Solid knowledge of structural engineering.
- Strong computer, writing, communication, and team skills are necessary
- Demonstrated managerial skills.
- Demonstrated ability to review work of others.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain clients.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience in the design and construction of parking garages.
