Position:

In addition to distributing food resources through our network of partner organizations, the Capital Area Food Bank works directly in the community through client-centered programs and services designed to fill in the gap in areas of high need. The Direct Distribution Programs operates Community Marketplaces, Family Markets, Joyful Food Markets, Mobile Markets, and School Pantries to provide healthy groceries most needed by specific populations throughout DC, MD and VA.

This position requires a dynamic individual who can lead a successful team while ensuring programmatic excellence and determining potential for growth. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our Direct Distribution Programs including staff oversight, budget and grants management, process improvement, customer service, and program implementation and evaluation. Additionally, this position will provide oversight and strategic direction for food sourcing for our population-specific programs, including the children and young adults.

The position will also work collaboratively across the organization to help evolve and grow new partnerships and pilot new initiatives that will address barriers to food access.

Responsibilities:

Program and Staff Management - 90%

  • In collaboration with the Direct Distributions Manager, provide day to day oversight of our 5 Direct Distribution Programs ensuring program excellence
  • Develop strategies and annual plans for all direct distribution programs in line with organizational goals and strategic plan
  • Work with the team to develop, support, and report out on quarterly and annual goals for each program in line with the strategic plan
  • Provide strong team leadership to ensure a positive team culture through ongoing team development.
  • Foster a learning environment and create opportunities to share best practices
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators quarterly and ensure monthly reporting is submitted; leverage data to make strategic decisions
  • Translate strategy into actionable plans and timelines, and drive effective allocation of resources
  • Assess programming to determine process/implementation improvements and expansion opportunities, based on Youth and Child Nutrition Strategy and Older Adult Strategy
  • Develop and maintain opportunities for collaboration across the organization to ensure alignment with strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the regional teams to develop and implement regional specific goals, leverage regional opportunities, and meet county level goals
  • Work with the Direct Distributions team to develop an enhanced portfolio of food offerings and wrap around services that reflect the needs of our distinct communities
  • With the Deputy Chief of Programs and Innovation, develop budget and monitor and reforecast, as necessary
  • Collaborate with Operations Team to address issues as they arise and proactively address expansion opportunities
  • Support development of staff by seeking growth opportunities and providing support
  • Directly supervise employees and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Grants and Compliance Management – 10%

  • Work with Development to draft grant applications and provide forecasting of funding needs
  • Track and monitor grant spending and progress; provide monthly reports for all restricted grants and government contracts
  • Develop systems for staff to ensure compliance monitoring and reporting on food or funding from county/state/federal government

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • 3-5 years management experience overseeing programs, budgets and staff

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Sitting: 80% of the day
  • Driving: 20% of the time attending direct distributions
  • As required by the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $115,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
