We are hiring for a Director of Football Operations to develop and lead the Football program as it moves towards alignment with the department goal. This role will function as the Head Coach of the Varsity Team, and Head Coach of the entire Football program to include Elementary-Varsity levels.
We are looking for an individual with proven excellence, that has experience with building a program from within.
This is a Full-time, Exempt, year-round position.

Job Summary
Serves as the Head Coach of the Varsity I Football team which includes coaching, instructing students and performing other duties necessary to the development of players and teams, which demonstrates skills and values in keeping with Kamehameha's philosophy of athletics. Also responsible for the management and administration of all K-12 football programs at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama (including all ILH teams as well as club teams). Oversees community outreach efforts that promote the program and the student athletes.
Essential Responsibilities
Coaching
- Provides leadership to and oversight of the school’s K-12 Football program, including all ILH teams as well as club teams at multiple age groups.
- Maintains a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.
- Translates sports knowledge to athletes and develops and evaluates athlete's and team's performance and progress. Teaches individual and team skills to athletes. Identifies observable outcomes besides just winning and losing. Assists athletes to reach their full potential. Has the ability and patience to develop athletes. Addresses athletes' individual needs (not at the expense of the entire team).
- Presents self in an ethical and professional manner and as a positive role model for the athletes.
- Organizes and supervises safe and efficient practices, games, and workouts, by utilizing coaching staff effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrates a knowledge with HUDL or any other video programs to assist with scouting report, game and practice preparation, highlight videos for college promotion, game time video for on field corrections.
Program Development
- Supports the goals and philosophies of the Athletics & Human Performance Division and works to achieve and uphold the school’s/division’s mission and core values.
- Develops team concept in student-athletes within values-driven framework of the KS organization. Promotes sportsmanship and respect for game rules and respect for officials.
- Handles administrative responsibilities such as resolving disciplinary issues appropriately and effectively; ensuring student-athlete medical and academic eligibility; and completing other administrative responsibilities timely and responsibly. (e.g. grade checks, student-athlete records, timesheets, human resources requirements). Acts responsibly with regards to equipment, uniforms, etc. such as assisting equipment and locker room personnel as necessary; assisting with planning and budgeting for the sport; and inventorying equipment.
- Ensures program compliance with KS, ILH, and HHSAA regulations.
- Provides a good balance between skill development and team concepts. Addresses each player as part of a team.
- Assists athletes to reach their full potential. Provides an enjoyable environment and experience.
- Assists with the off-season conditioning, training, and football development programs.
- Monitor student-athlete’s during the off-season (playing other sports, strength and speed development program, and/or football developmental program).
- Work with internal resources to prepare student athletes to pursue athletics in college.
- Lead program evaluation to ensure performance and goals of the coaching staff adhere to program expectations.
- Coordinate with administration to organize all aspects of team travel.
Community Engagement
- Promotes the sport of football on campus to build school spirit and pride
- Develop external relationships to promote the program and the student athletes it supports.
- Communicates effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, other coaches, and the community as appropriate. Gets appropriate results to school and media timely.
- Conducts yearly football clinics and player mentoring programs.
- Conducts yearly community and/or school service projects.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements listed.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in coaching.
- National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Fundamentals of Coaching Certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to relate effectively with a variety of individuals to include students, coaches, other KS staff, physicians, parents, teachers and administrators.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Various high school or collegiate athletic participation.
- Knowledge of ILH, HHSAA, and NCAA participation regulations.
- Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh at least 10 pounds.
- Frequently twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
