Director, Perioperative Services
Position Summary:
The Director is responsible and accountable for establishing and maintaining excellence in clinical practice and effectiveness, strategic initiatives and efficiency of operations within their defined areas of responsibility. This position serves to facilitate collaborative professional relationships with the medical staff and all other hospital departments. The position models the Rush Copley Medical Center mission, vision and values and ensures that operations result in high quality, team oriented, patient focused and cost effective services. The position acts in accordance with Rush Copley Medical Center policies and procedures and holds others accountable for meeting regulatory and best practice standards.
Position Performance Area/Expectations:
Strategic Leadership
- Actively engages in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for Nursing aligned with the organizational strategic plan.
- Determines opportunities to improve the value of care and services to patients and families
- Identifies and supports community outreach, philanthropy and marketing initiatives that may enhance the development of new business or research opportunities.
- Actively provides nursing operations consultation and engagement at the organizational service line level of the organization.
- Ensures the integration of service line planning into nursing resource management, strategic planning and operational budgets.
- Promotes the development and implementation of inter-and intra-disciplinary research by staff and faculty.
- Contributes to the advancement of nursing through professional research and scholarly activities.
Inspirational Leadership
- Provides vision, direction and leadership to the department of nursing
- Works collaboratively across organizational lines to facilitate hospital and nursing operations and ensure patient needs are met.
- Acts as a change agent and manages organizational change efforts to ensure operational effectiveness.
Operational Leadership
- Leads program planning, implementation and evaluation efforts for areas of responsibility both at a strategic and tactical level.
- Ensures ongoing personal development plan and provides management development and coaching for other members of the nursing team.
- Represents the medical center at state, local and national levels through involvement in professional associations and organization.
- Accountable for ensuring exceptional patient experience through patient centered initiatives and high levels of customer service.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of evidence based practice and quality efforts.
- Maintains an environment that promotes patient safety, high reliability of processes and quality outcomes.
- Participates in and complies with ongoing regulatory and accreditation readiness sustaining a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Ensures areas of responsibility consistently meet these standards
- Develops and oversees departmental budgets and assures financial accountability for annual operations and capital expenditures and budgets.
- Assures efficiencies in staffing and resource utilization by comparison with internal and external benchmarks as measured by productivity and cost per unit for areas of responsibility.
People Leadership
- Assure the availability of appropriately trained staff to deliver a high quality, consistent standard of clinical and nursing care.
- Develops and implements staffing patterns to meet demands consistent with a fluctuating volume and acuity.
- Cultivates a culture that promotes and rewards professional growth, interdisciplinary collaboration, constructive communication, flexibility, teamwork, and customer service.
- Maintains consistency in the employee performance appraisal process utilizing established standards of practice.
- Maintains a focus on internal talent management and retention.
Functional Leadership
- Promotes Rush University programs both internally and externally.
- Participates in educational programs.
- Provides opportunities for staff development based on scientific advances, changes in technology, society, or health care delivery systems.
- Takes an active role in the integration of operations between the college of nursing and nursing services.
Cultural Leadership
- Models the mission, vision and values of Rush Copley Medical Center and Nursing.
- Consistently displays and holds others accountable for displaying the IPromise behaviors.
- Displays a commitment to the development of a culture of inclusion throughout all aspects of the department of nursing.
Position Requirements:
License: In the current state of Illinois Registered Nurse license required.
Education: Earned nursing degree at the baccalaureate level or higher required. Graduate degree required; earned doctorate preferred.
Special Skills: National certification required within 1 year of hire after 6/2016
Experience: A minimum of 5 years progressive management experience required.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year
