The Senior Director, Global Procurement will be accountable to oversee the external spend in support of the global Abiomed business. Abiomed is present in most markets of the world, representing more than $1 billion of revenue with projected strong growth and premier market positions. The spend in support of this business resides in multiple categories and sums up to 300 million$ per year. In collaboration with the Supply Chain LT he will develop, implement, and drive the global sourcing strategy as well as the global supplier scale strategy which is a crucial element to successfully meet the 5 year growth plan of Abiomed.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Orchestrating the efforts of diverse categories (direct and indirect) and Global Services Procurement to the advancement of the Abiomed business
• Owning the holistic SC Source business plan for the Abiomed business
• Working closely with Abiomed Development and R&D to support new product pipeline development upstream and product launch and/or integration
• Orchestrating of supplier management and oversight for the execution delivery of the strategic plan and business plan, in line with expectations put forth by SC, Quality, R&D and Commercial functions
• Lead and develop the Abiomed Procurement team and its members
• Drive the engagement of the core suppliers
• Proactively build relationships with vendors that ensure stability in Abiomed’s vendor network and establish strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned with the company's business goals
• Reduce overall supply risk though contingency planning, risk mitigation, understanding of supplier capabilities, disaster preparedness, and financial health using appropriate tools
• Negotiate all vendor material agreements to ensure adequate supply of material for global manufacturing while minimizing over purchasing
• Identification and realization of cost-saving and cost-reduction opportunities
• Active member in the MD Supply Chain as well as the Enterprise Procurement functions being an active citizen in the MD Supply Chain community as well as in the Enterprise Procurement function

Job Qualifications:

• BS in Engineering, Operations/Supply chain management or related field, MBA/MS preferred
• Experienced professional with business experience in multiple roles across a variety of functional specialties including general management, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain or Technical field with at least 10+ years within a Procurement environment in a senior position
• Good level of understanding of the Procurement processes and experience in engaging internal stakeholders and leadership teams
• Broad-based understanding of business operations and practices and core Procurement areas of focus (e.g. Category Management, Supplier Management, Supply Chain Integration, Business planning, Performance Management)
• Strong Customer Orientation (building and maintaining strong relationships with Abiomed senior Management)
• Strong leadership, vision/strategy setting, communication, influencing, collaboration, talent development skills are key
• Strong project and change management capabilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skill with ability to confidently present complex information
• Ability to continuously improve the organization
• Strong Business Acumen, Medical Device and specifically Abiomed relevant industry experience preferred
• Multi-country and Multi sector experience preferred
• High level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community
• Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., businesses, Procurement LT, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain); has "presence"
• Proven track record in attracting and developing talent
• Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant influencing roles
• Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to effectively and efficiently move through transitions
• Experience to work across regions and understand markets
• Continuous improvement/lean/six sigma experience, black belt preferred
• Experience with SAP preferred, or another ERP, device management and procurement systems
• Experience as a strong visionary and leader, and experience managing others
• Willingness to travel, particularly to visit suppliers. This position may require up to 30% International travel based on business needs
