Job Description

Title: Director of Safety and Transportation

Job Summary:

The Director of Safety and Transportation is primarily responsible for ensuring that Methuen Public Schools ( 6 buildings) are equipped to provide a safe and secure environment for learning and transportation.

Qualifications:

5 Years experience in management in one of the following areas: Safety, Transportation, Education, Law Enforcement.

Strong written, verbal communication skills and organizational skills.

Strong background in community relations and people skills.

Experience in working as a liaison with external agencies including but not limited to law enforcement, emergency responders, community partners and agencies.

Bilingual (English and Spanish, preferred)

Must be flexible and available at varying hours of the day.

Knowledge of Methuen and the surrounding area is a plus.

Responsibilities/ Safety:

• Directly oversees all aspects of safety and security for Methuen Public Schools
• Updates and implements the district wide safety and security plan
• Participates in the development and maintenance of the District’s Safety plans in conjunction with the Methuen Police and Fire Departments
• Serve as the Liaison for The Methuen Police and Fire Department to coordinate the periodic drills and training for schools.
• Interacts and advises all building principals in the development, implementation and maintenance of the school safety plan.
• Directs and coordinates periodic assessments of school building and grounds to determine possible safety and security issues
• Coordinates (with Methuen Police and Fire) security coverage for out of school athletics and social events as needed.
• Works directly with Law enforcement during critical incident situations and follow up.

Responsibilities/ Transportation:

• Directly oversees all transportation contracted by the Methuen Public Schools
• Trains and manages crossing guards
• Manages communications and concerns from the community (parents and others)
• Responsible for communication with schools and families around bus routes, pick up times and general busing issues.
• Responsible for working with the schools, parents and Methuen’s transportation providers to address any and all transportation related issues.
• Required to create bus routes when needed.

Job Specifications:

This is a 12 month unaffiliated position with a salary range of $70,000-80,000

The Director of Safety and Transportation will be supervised by the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations. They will meet on a regular basis to discuss safety and transportation plans, budget, resource allocation, as well as all other safety, security and transportation issues.
