Summary of Position

The Director of Store Technology Deployment is an enterprise role that ensures hardware technology (e.g., POS registers, pinpads, scanners, etc.) is installed, working, and maintained in all 16,000+ Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. This role coordinates with internal peers and leaders in IT, Finance, Real Estate/Construction, and Store Operations as well as with trusted Vendor Partners to ensure ongoing operational excellence.

The Director oversees a team of 3 Managers (each with at least 4 direct reports of their own plus several contractors) & a Budget/Business Analyst. Together these teams manage the full lifecycle of store hardware including model evaluation & selection, forecasting & procurement, inventory & asset management, deployment services, maintenance services, end of life disposition, and vendor governance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Primary responsibilities listed in order of importance

Finances/Budgeting
  • Manage over $50m in combined annual capex/opex spend for all store hardware related initiatives
  • Prepare annual budgets, monthly variance explanations/reconciliations & comprehensive forecasting
  • Partner with Fixed Assets to ensure proper recordkeeping for depreciation and tax implications
  • Collaborate with Corporate Procurement on RFIs & RFPs for new products and services; negotiate new deals
  • Partner with Legal to review provider contracts and ensure compliance with Company standards
Technology Deployment
  • Consistently deploy/recoup store technology on time and in full (OTIF) for new stores, renovations, relocations, and closings to meet targeted opening dates
  • Provide reporting to key stakeholders of any technology issues preventing stores from operating at full capacity
  • Track all deployment related IT issues to full closure before handoff to Day2+ support
Inventory Management
  • Monitor store technology inventory levels, forecast hardware needs, review/approve purchase requests, and verify accurate financial coding
  • Ensure owned assets warehoused with 3rd party providers are accounted for on at least a quarterly basis plus one onsite annual physical inventory
  • Track end of life dates for all existing hardware models, maintain a pulse on the market for next generation options, and guide selection of new equipment
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to test and certify new devices
Technology Refresh
  • Track the aging of all technology assets deployed in stores and determine appropriate cadence for replacing older equipment with newer models
  • Determine appropriate purchase quantities, considering manufacturing lead times, to ensure sufficient inventory is available for refresh projects while minimizing warehousing costs
  • Partner with 3rd party vendors to successfully replace aged technology at thousands of locations with minimal disruption to store operations and ensure appropriate disposal of obsolete inventory
  • Continuously review refresh cadence to minimize the number of technology permutations simultaneously deployed in the field and maximize the efficiency of truck rolls to stores
Equipment Maintenance
  • Manage depot program for deployment of replacement technology when needed for break/fix situations; continuously re-evaluate priorities and SLAs for each unique piece of equipment
  • Ensure 3rd party technician visits to stores are completed in a manner that minimizes store downtime
  • Partner with help desk to monitor breakage rates and chronic issues, perform root cause analyses, and determine appropriate remediation strategies
  • Ensure collection of broken devices so they can be repaired and returned to inventory for future re-use
Vendor Governance
  • Serve as Dollar Tree’s primary point of contact with providers of store related technology products & services
  • Lead business reviews with key vendor partners; hold providers accountable to meeting contractual SLAs
  • Monitor and challenge change orders for out-of-scope work
Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure proper key performance indicators and metrics are generated, reviewed, and adjusted as needed; monitor trends, identify areas in need of remediation, and take appropriate actions to address
  • Continuously review and evaluate team processes for efficiency and cost saving opportunities
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications - Summary of knowledge, experience and education required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, MIS or other four-year related degree
  • 10+ years of related work experience
  • 3+ years of prior management experience
  • Experience managing the work of external vendors
Desired Qualifications - Desired but not required.

  • Experience working with IT systems integrators and hardware vendors
  • Retail hardware and services procurement experience, including contract negotiations
  • Advanced oral and written communications as well as facilitation skills
  • Strong project management and process improvement skills
  • Skilled with financial and metrics analyses
