Hilltop Holdings is currently looking to hire a Tax Director. The Tax Director will maintain, provide expertise and oversee all tax provision and federal, state, and local corporate income tax filings and compliance, including setting up and documenting processes and procedures. Prepare and review components of enterprise SEC ASC 740 disclosures while providing supervision and guidance to other members of the Tax and Reporting team. Essential Functions:

Hilltop Holdings is currently looking to hire a Tax Director. The Tax Director will maintain, provide expertise and oversee all tax provision and federal, state, and local corporate income tax filings and compliance, including setting up and documenting processes and procedures. Prepare and review components of enterprise SEC ASC 740 disclosures while providing supervision and guidance to other members of the Tax and Reporting team.
- Manages preparation of quarterly tax provision utilizing One Source Tax Provision Software, pursuant to ASC 740 and all subsets thereof. Includes proper documentation needed for final tax return preparation.
- Manages the tax compliance preparation process and reviews tax returns and work papers prepared in support of the final tax returns, utilizing OneSource Income Tax Software.
- Manages the federal, state, and local estimated tax payment process.
- Supports and provides documentation for any income tax audits.
- Prepares and reviews tax information and disclosures for the SEC quarterly and annual filings. Leads reconciliation efforts related to information required for the filings.
- Work closely with executive management to ascertain the tax impact of various corporate strategies and initiatives, including business development deals and expansion plans.
- Manages and executes the payment requirements of the in effect inter-company tax sharing agreement.
- Maintains knowledge of current tax laws and regulations; evaluates tax consequences of various strategies and keeps management informed of current legislation.
- Reviews and documents processes and procedures related to the position to comply with internal control requirements.
- Reviews journal entries and account reconciliations to accurately reflect tax accounts in the general ledger on a monthly basis.
- Works with others in the organization and outside accounting firms for tax savings ideas and initiatives to benefit the company, including communication with executive management.
- Oversight of the company’s sales & use tax policies and strategies.
- Manages process for timely notice response to taxing authorities.
- Provides supervision and guidance to other Tax staff including review of work and identification of development needs and opportunities.
- Maintain relationships with external auditors and tax consultants.
- Prepare ad hoc analyses and perform other assignments as necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA certification required. Master’s in taxation or other graduate finance degree strongly desired.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressively challenging corporate income tax or public accounting experience required.
- Expertise in financial accounting matters, especially the financial accounting for income taxes.
- Exposure to SEC reporting preferred.
- General tax research skills needed.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products, as well as Thomson Reuters OneSource income tax preparation and Income Tax Provision preferred.
