Overview:
The Education Support Specialist works as a liaison between the school and patients, assuring that patients receive appropriate levels of education materials and guidance to assist them in maintaining their current academic progress. This position works to establish guidelines and schedules on the unit to assist and ensure that schoolwork and support are prioritized. This position works as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The Education Support Specialist works to motivate and encourage patients which includes behavioral management, establishment of school guidelines, and providing educational supports through individual and group interventions.

Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
Responsibilities/Job Description:

Communicate with school systems regarding needs and progress of patients, both at home and school as well as Hennepin County school representatives and teachers.


Provide encouraging, educational supervision and structure for patients.


Communicate progress and observed behaviors to clinical team.


Apply critical thinking skills and knowledge of age-appropriate activities to develop and implement early childhood education best practices.


Knowledge of Regulatory Requirements


Ability to work as a member of a team.


Obtain and apply knowledge of children’s mental health diagnoses as well as impacts of trauma and benefits of trauma informed care.

  • Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-year degree in education or closely related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues and learning disabilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in education or closely related field
  • Experience working in children's mental health
