General ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the School Programs Director/Principal, the Educational Assistant provides instructional support to students in a classroom setting.Assignment:This position will be 35 hours per week, 220 days per year. The candidate for this position will work at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.
Essential Functions/Other FunctionsEssential Functions:
- Provide academic assistance to enrolled students.
- Supervise groups and work independently with students as directed by the teacher.
- Establish behavior management strategies to create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars.
- Communicate with students, parents, staff and community partners.
- Facilitate student skill building in the areas of personal and social development.
- Other duties as assigned.Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & SkillsMinimum Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or GED
- Associate's Degree or the equivalent (48 semester / 72 quarter hours) from an accredited college or university OR a passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Assessment.
- Bachelors degree.
- Experience with at-risk youth.
- Experience with computer-based instruction.
- Experience in mental health, juvenile justice or alternative education.
- Classroom setting.
- Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
