Schedule: 7.5 hours per day/ 5 days per week/ 185-day Instructional Calendar

About this position:
The ECSE Itinerant Educational Assistant will, under the day-to-day direction of the teacher and/or related services staff, serve students in self-contained and community preschool or childcare settings. The Itinerant EA may also substitute for educational assistants who are absent. The Itinerant Educational Assistant helps set up and clean up the classroom space before and after each group, prepares materials and snacks, works with children individually or in a small group within the daily preschool routine, and attends to the health and safety of each child. The Itinerant Educational Assistant will also follow and support both the Clackamas ESD and the host school district’s policies and procedures, perform other duties as assigned, and work cooperatively and harmoniously with children and their parents, co-workers and supervisors.

About the program:
Clackamas ESD has been providing services for young children with special needs in Clackamas County for more than thirty years. The Clackamas Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education program continues to focus on working with families, local school districts, and other community programs to prepare young children with special needs to enter kindergarten ready to learn.

Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education serves eligible children ages 0-5 years who experience delays or disabilities. Services are individualized according to the child's needs and may include home visiting; consultation to staff at community preschools, Head Start classrooms, or child care settings; specialized preschool; related services such as speech, motor, or other specialists; and parent education. Children may be referred by parents, community preschools, local school districts, physicians, or other community service providers.

Essential functions:

  • Reports to various preschool locations and start/end times on a day-to-day basis as assigned
  • Assists children in a variety of activities including arrival, departure, play, meals, and personal care, including changing diapers and soiled clothing
  • Assists with management of children’s behavior using teaching and behavioral procedures which conform with best practices for young children and the individualized needs of each child
  • Implements fine and gross motor activities, and speech and language activities under the design and direction of an Early Childhood Specialist or related services staff
  • Assists in data collection or writing of progress notes as directed by the teacher or related service staff
  • Assists with maintenance of a clean, safe, and healthy classroom sites including proper disposal of waste, washing, and disinfecting materials
  • Organizes materials and prepares for instructional activities designed by the teacher or related service staff, and completes clerical tasks as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preparation
  • Ability to operate and use technology for student instruction and/or care including computers, augmentative communication devices, and adaptive physical equipment
  • Training or successful experience working with young children in an early childhood setting
  • Ability and willingness to provide for students' personal care needs including feeding, diapering, and assistance with toileting

Salary: Range 13 of theclassified salary schedule. New hires are eligible to come in at up to Step 4 of the classified salary schedule, depending on experience: $19.92 - $21.63 per hour. Bilingual candidates placed at Range 14: $20.86 - $22.78 per hour.

Retirement plan contributions:
Clackamas ESD employees working 600 or more hours in a calendar year are eligible for the Oregon Public Employee Retirement, or PERS. There are two components to PERS, including the pension, which is primarily funded by CESD and The Individual Account Program, or IAP, which is funded by a six-percent deduction from your paycheck. If you are new to PERS, your PERS deduction will begin automatically after a six-month waiting period.
