Summary of Position:

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for new product development as well as maintenance and continuous improvement of existing products within the Design Engineering team. In conjunction with new product development, you will conduct validation and qualification testing to ensure products meet the rigorous functional and safety standards associated with Dometic Marine products. Team members will be working alongside electronic, embedded firmware, mechanical product designers, and test personnel to solve a variety of technical challenges to develop novel technologies that pave roads towards successful product launches. Product areas are marine AC / DC charging systems, lithium ion battery integration, connectivity, and mobile power solutions for inboard and outboard leisure crafts.

Main responsibilities:

• Prepare design documentation for new products and components such as product specifications, PCBA engineering specifications, drawings, and test reports
• Work with suppliers and design consultants to manage and specify power electronics and battery solutions
• Circuit design including schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout, and routing using Altium Designer (or an equivalent electronic CAD program)
• Support new product launches by working with cross-functional product development teams including Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Automation Engineering
• Hold design reviews and conduct validation tests (EMC, EFT, and other automotive qualification testing)
• Work alongside embedded firmware development team to select microcontrollers and implement electronic designs
• Provide cost and schedule estimates for new projects
• Support research and development project activities
• Maintain bill of materials and designs of existing products to ensure product continuity across an ever-changing supply chain
• Conduct isolated testing of existing products in search of continuous improvements, reduction of field failures, or cost reductions

Qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronic, or related engineering discipline is required
• Minimum 5+ years of industry or relevant electronic design experience; candidates with 10+ years are preferred
• Consumer electronic product design experience and new product development experience, ideally related to automotive and/or safety critical systems
• Strong proficiency working with suppliers and consultants on power electronics and batteries
• Strong proficiency in Altium Designer or equivalent electronic CAD program
• Knowledge of microcontroller parameters related to selecting components based on specifications and applications
• Familiar with PCB manufacturing processes and fabrication capabilities, specifically as it relates to interfacing with external fabrication houses
• Working knowledge of communication interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, or RS232
• Experience with troubleshooting EMC related issues during the certification testing of a product
• Familiar with lithium batteries and battery management
• Familiar with power invertors and chargers including AC/DC conversion and DC/DC conversion
• Knowledge of industry standards such as SAE, ASTM, ISO, and ISO9001
• Familiar with ERP systems to control engineering Bill of Materials
• Familiar with firmware program languages such as C, C++, and assembly for embedded controllers such as Freescale, NXP, and ARM
• Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint
