REQUIREMENTS:

• Understand and manage general medical complaints of altered mental status, respiratory, cardiac, diabetic, allergic reactions, seizures, poisoning, environmental emergencies, and/or psychiatric crises.
• Be adept at administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, included the use of automated external defibrillators.
• Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care of simple traumas to multiple system trauma.
• Assist patients with prescribed medications, including sublingual nitroglycerin, epinephrine auto-injectors, handheld aerosol inhalers, etc.
• Ability to administer oxygen, oral glucose, and activated charcoal.
• Transport patients.
• Secure patients on stretcher, in ambulance, at facility, etc.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 125 lbs.
• Continuity of care during transport.
• Administer oxygen.
• Restock/replace linens, blankets, and supplies between runs.
• Cleans all equipment in the manner prescribed for disinfecting and sterilizing.
• Ensures all equipment is in working order.
• Decontaminates the vehicle interior after each patient.
• Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic, or oral disclosures.
• Displays concern and initiative. Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
• Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences.
• Cooperates and maintains good rapport with any nursing staff, medical staff, other facilities, and friends/family members of patients that are encountered.
• Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as hospital polices that apply to assigned duties.
• Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct.
• Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.
• Ensures that the vehicle is in proper mechanical condition by checking service items.
• Keeps up to date on latest trends and procedures through continuing ed or refresher courses.

• Ability to handle crises without haste or errors.
• A competent and confident "beside manner."
• Ability to work expeditiously to accomplish tasks.
• Assessment competencies in order to constantly assess the patient en route to the emergency facility and adjust additional care as indicated or directed by medical control.
• Competent in reporting observations, care provided, and outcomes-both verbally and written.
• When requested, assist receiving medical facility staff to ensure continuum of care.
