The Washington State Employment Security Department is hiring an Employment Development Specialist to join the WorkSource Auburn Team. Our Employment Development Specialists are a critical piece of our mission of providing our services to job seekers and employers. As a member of our WorkSource center team, you will use compassion and empathy to provide our customers with information about the full range of agency services and programs. The ideal candidate will be comfortable learning about multiple areas and programs to be adaptable and flexible as workload and business needs change.

About the Employment Connections Division:
Employment Connections (EC) is made up of three Lines of Business: WorkSource, Central Operations System Support, and Washington Service Corps (WSC). EC administers the Labor Exchange (LEX), Migrant Seasonal Farmworker (MSFW), Veterans Services, Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), and WorkFirst programs for job seekers and employers in Washington and provides job seekers with referrals to partners providing Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) adult, youth, and dislocated worker training and support services.

Positions in King County are eligible for 5% assignment pay in addition to the salary listed above.

Duties

Whether in the Resource Room helping customers, facilitating orientations, and career services workshops or meeting one on one with a job seeker to assess customers work readiness and employability, it is our Employment Development Specialists' goal to engage our job seekers by offering access to the full array of services available through the WorkSource system. These services increase job seekers skills and ability to find gainful employment into high-quality jobs and careers. In this role, you will regularly be meeting with customers to determine which services will best fit their needs and where they are at in their employment search. Because you will interact with people needing varying levels or areas of support, listening to understand, empathizing, and the ability to be adaptable with how you communicate are all crucial skills in building trusting relationships with customers who may be facing difficult or vulnerable situations. This position offers a hybrid schedule with up to two days available to work remotely, with the rest of the week in office in Auburn.

Some of what you will be doing:
  • Develop individual employment plans; guide customers to effectively use in employment and training programs and services.
  • Conduct outreach to individual who would benefit from training opportunities by enrolling into workforce services by guiding them through eligibility processes.
  • Conduct staff assisted job development, job matches and job follow-up; make job referrals; verify customer job search.
  • Ensure the customer understands and follows through with all requirements of the workforce program.
  • Conduct individual interviews to articulate program services, assessments and activities. Identify components applicable to customer need; support continuous engagement in services to completion with employment.
  • Manage caseload, provide case management, facilitate appropriate support services and/or make referrals.
  • Answer phone calls and direct to program teams; provide timely response and services through all forms of customer service (phone, email, face-to-face).
  • Use technology such as Microsoft Word, excel and outlook and other software applications to plan your day and record the work you do.

This is an in-training opportunity and will be hired as a WorkSource 3. You will be required to successfully complete the training plan in order to promote to the next level of the series until the goal class of WorkSource Specialist 4 is reached.

Qualifications

Required:

Qualified candidates will have one (1) or more of the following experiences and/or education. Such as: * Workforce development, social services, human resources, public relations, or public contact/customer service work, such as: unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement and banking or other similar public facing occupations.

Option 1: A combination of education and/or relevant experience* totaling no less than six (6) years.
Option 2: One (1) year of experience as a WorkSource Specialist 2 within the Employment Security Department, or in an equivalent class with another state's Employment Security agency.

Education to Experience Equivalences:
Associate Degree = 2 years | Bachelor Degree = 4 years | Masters or Higher = 5 years

A Master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Additional Requirement of Employment:

  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claim & Benefit Information Review.
  • Per Gov. Inslee’s Directive 22-13.1, employees of the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine series. As a condition of employment, ESD employees are required to provide proof of vaccination before starting work. A medical or religious exemption may be requested for accommodation.
