- Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field
- 4+ years of experience working in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role
- 2+ years of experience developing and delivering Medium Voltage and High Voltage electric infrastructure projects in a planning or project management role
- 2+ years of experience analyzing energy projects and negotiating contracts with utilities and contractors
- 2+ years of experience collaborating with external stakeholders to deliver projects on-time and on-budget
The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy background and a proven track record of developing and delivering on large, at-scale energy project portfolios. Experience working with regulated electric utilities to develop, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure, including related tariffs and agreements, is a must. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, operations, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to independently drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. The candidate must have experience in reliably delivering initiatives to completion in constrained and ambiguous environments, with practice in escalating and reporting to many organization leaders and teams across multiple levels. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion are met.
Key job responsibilities
- Manage multiple Utilities, EPC and Owner's Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.
- Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to reduce long term energy costs.
- Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
- Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects to meet growth signals for capacity needs across the business. Collaborate with the internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy and projects to meet the business timelines.
- Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
- Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
- Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

- Master’s Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent financial/business/commercial experience
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project/program level education and certification
- The ability to manage multiple, simultaneous, large scale projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Experience planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other 34.5kV or greater energy infrastructure
- Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators
- Experience successfully negotiating new tariff rates, power purchase agreements and/or energy infrastructure contracts in regulatory regimes
- Experience with data center reliability and availability standards
- Strong Bias for Action with an ability to look around corners and effectively influence without authority.
- Ability to Deliver Results in a constrained and ambiguous energy environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $73,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $177,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
