Purpose of Position:

As the Director of Environmental Health and Safety,in partnership with imi leadership, you will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the company's environmental health and safety program, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, and driving a culture of safety throughout the organization. This is a very hands-on, in the field type of position and will work closely with the CEO on safety and environmental issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interact with business and functional leaders to drive a culture of safety throughout the organization where all employees are held to the highest standard of safety as a core value.
- Lead and manage a team of environmental health and safety professionals by “walking the walk” to ensure the effective delivery of services across all company sites, including concrete production and delivery, heavy highway construction, aggregate mining, and transportation
- In consultation with appropriate stakeholder groups, direct the design, development, deployment, monitoring & review of EHS systems, processes and programs
- Develop plans and strategies to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) and deliverables as established with business leaders and implement safety improvement plans (SIP) when needed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and other stakeholders to stay up-to-date with the latest environmental health and safety trends and best practices
- Conduct risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses for both existing and potential new businesses.
- Develops and deploys incident investigation programs/procedures, including data analysis
- Directs EHS education/training efforts for all levels of employees, including supervision and senior management.
- Responsible for conducting on-site EHS audits/reviews of field sites within the company footprint.
- Directs industrial hygiene, occupational health and auditing programs to ensure a safe work environment
- Responds and provides direct assistance to sites in emergency situations.
- Supports relationships with clients, customers, and other stakeholders
- Enhance and drive the culture by being present in our field locations, setting an example by modeling the required behaviors, and hold others (employees and peers) accountable for their actions by identifying and acting on behavior which is inconsistent with company standards.
- Partner with the Finance and HR teams to ensure workers compensation and general liability claims are reported and managed efficiently.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field
- Relevant EHS or equivalent qualifications/certifications, e.g., BCSP, CSP, CIH.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental health and safety management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful environmental health and safety programs
- Well versed in OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and DOT legislation and regulations
- Well-developed research and report writing skills.
- Sound Investigative skills and experience with regulatory negotiations.
- Ability to implement and enforce systems and best practices.
- Ability to manage projects and conflicting priorities
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to be sensitive to and understand local issues/legislation.
- Conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills to enable the identification of issues and the judgment to determine appropriate courses of action for achieving long-range organizational goals
Compensation:
Dependent on experience and qualifications.
