As an Environmental Health, Safety and Quality Supervisor Here's What You'll Do:

  • Executes requirements for the quality system and its components to ensure the quality of the railcars and satisfy all customer, regulatory, and CFRS requirements.
  • Assists with quality processes to ensure compliance with the CF Rail Services’ Quality Assurance Manual and AAR M-1002 /1003 standards.
  • Leads / supports investigations and recommends actions to address non-conformance including incident reporting, customer discrepancies, and other related areas.
  • Supports internal site auditing, which includes Customer, AAR, & FRA audits, internal audits, process and peer assessment audits, to continuously improve all aspects of safety and quality.
  • Controls and communicates documents pertinent to the quality and safety policy, to all affected personnel.
  • Works closely with Operations Manager to recommend new procedures for production.
  • This position will interact with site managers / leaders and operations staff.
  • Wears PPE in appropriate areas.
  • Monitors compliance across the facility and works with the Operations Manager to ensure CF Rail Services’ EHS program requirements are met.
  • Analyze and communicate CF Rail Services’ safety performance of the facility to the Operations manager. Recommends and implements improvement plans.
  • Supports research, analysis and communication of EHS to the facility and the Director of EH&S.
  • Develops a full understanding of policies and procedures for OSHA and CF Rail Services standards. Maintains related tracking logs.
  • Delivers quality and safety training for CF Rail Services’ East Chicago location.

Here's What it Will Take to be Successful in This Role:

  • High School Diploma. Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three (3) years railcar inspection experience
  • Knowledge of AAR Interchange Rules
  • Knowledge of AAR Field and Office Manual, AAR M-1003, M-1003
  • Knowledge of AAR Billing Repair Card requirements
  • Knowledge of welding inspection
  • Effective communication skill
  • Knowledge of AAR Interchanges Rules through Railway Education Bureau preferred
  • OSHA Training preferred
  • HAZMAT Training preferred
  • First aid CPR training preferred
  • Environmental regulatory training preferred

Physical Demands

Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time at various heights up to 20 feet. Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or suspended platforms. Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs. Employee must be medically certified to wear a respirator, as well as be able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time.


Working Conditions

Work will be performed outdoors and indoors, on and around heavy equipment. May be required to work overtime and/or varied shifts to meet the demands of the business.
